Start your Voyage – Apply Now Get to Know the Opportunity: Primarily engaged either in the processing of our most complex Leave and Disability claims or in project work that supports departmental initiatives. May assist with distribution/ redistribution of work for claims team. Reviews complex claims and/or related situations. Make decisions that may require deviating from normal guidelines. Must use discretion in decision-making ranging from contract interpretation to benefit amounts to be paid. Actively suggests and operationalizes adjustments to standard work as the need arises.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • 2-3 years’ experience Leave and Disability claims systems and practices
  • Manages a small caseload of complex claims.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong ability to influence and motivate others, to include across departments, to solution for shared customers
  • Previous experience in process or system improvement projects
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and initiatives simultaneously
  • If engaged in production work: capacity to prioritize and help balance large workloads across staff

Responsibilities

  • Participation in Claims-specific or multi-departmental project work as assigned. may be expected to facilitate or act as project manager on smaller-scale initiatives.
  • Review complex claims and/or situations and make informed decisions that may require deviation from normal guidelines and/or judgement in providing direction to other analysts or business units
  • Responsible for providing direction, developing, training, and mentoring less experienced claims staff, including completing audits and providing feedback
  • May be responsible for managing work queues for assigned team(s), providing direction, prioritization, and reassignment where needed to meet agreements and customer expectations
  • Ensures claim controls for KRI, appeal, and general claim handling agreements are followed. This includes but is not limited to process confirms, reporting team misses, second reviews, and monitoring suspense accounts for accurate claim processing and appropriate financial reporting
  • Assists or leads team in developing and implementing improvement processes
  • Refer cases to legal and/or may represent company in legal matters surrounding claims decisions
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.
