About The Position

The Learning Designer supports the design and development of high-quality hybrid and online courses for EIM’s University Partner (UP) programs. This role ensures that course materials align with institutional standards, program outcomes, accessibility requirements, and EIM’s commitment to effective hybrid education. Working within the Learning Design & Technology (LDT) team, the Learning Designer strengthens course quality and faculty readiness through collaborative design practices and structured development workflows. The Learning Designer collaborates with faculty and internal teams to apply instructional best practices, maintain consistent course design processes, and support timely course development. This role provides faculty training, conducts quality reviews, and helps ensure instructional coherence across partner programs. Through practical application of instructional design principles, the Learning Designer enhances student learning, supports faculty effectiveness, and contributes to engaging, compliant hybrid educational experiences tailored to each University Partner.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or related field
  • 1-7 years of relevant work or project experience in instructional design, online course development, or other related fields
  • Experience using learning management systems (Canvas, Brightspace, Blackboard, or equivalent)
  • Proven ability to work independently, manage time and priorities, and meet deadlines without direct supervision in a distributed or remote work setting
  • Demonstrated knowledge of research-based instructional strategies that engage all students
  • Experience with multimedia development, web-based environments, and comprehensive instructional design
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey complex information clearly and document work progress (e.g. status updates, collaboration notes) in remote and asynchronous formats
  • Ability to thrive in a diversified work environment with varying levels of ambiguity
  • Experience integrating theory and practice to deliver pedagogically sound learning experiences
  • Track record of working under deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Highly self-motivated and self-directed, with strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, faculty, and/or subject matter experts in a remote environment

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with faculty to design and develop instructional content, interactive learning activities, and assessments that align with course objectives, learning outcomes, and program goals.
  • Write measurable learning objectives and design both formative and summative assessment strategies, particularly for hybrid environments.
  • Support faculty in developing instructional content based on established project timelines.
  • Apply institution-specific and discipline-based design standards to ensure compliance and instructional consistency.
  • Assist in curating or developing engaging, high-quality, inclusive materials that reflect UDL principles and meet accessibility standards (WCAG).
  • Assist in review of curriculum mapping efforts and escalate minor technical issues or timeline concerns as needed.
  • Provide faculty with training on module building processes and ensure access to necessary systems and resources.
  • Provide training and coaching to faculty on LMS tools and features (e.g., discussion boards, quizzes, gradebook) and offer 1:1 or group support on hybrid course design best practices as assigned.
  • Respond to Faculty and Student Support Center tickets as assigned, including participation in a rotating schedule for after-hours support.
  • Conduct quality assurance reviews of instructional content to identify improvements and ensure alignment with institutional standards and assigned quality rubrics.
  • Gather and analyze course data as assigned to help inform recommendations for iterative improvements in instructional content and delivery.
  • Share recommendations for iterative improvements to course-level instructional content with faculty.
  • Collaborate with the Director, Associate Directors, and other Learning Designers to refine team workflows and implement process improvements for increased team efficiency.
  • Effectively communicate with Associate Directors, university partners, and other EIM teams regarding instructional needs, providing regular and assigned project updates, and course development progress.
  • Serve as a meeting liaison and interface with UPs for low-stakes collaboration and communication as assigned.
  • Utilize and support updates of team knowledge base articles and workflows outlining course development processes and best practices.
  • Support training for internal team members as assigned.
  • Protect the organization's value by maintaining confidentiality of information, including protection of intellectual property and confidentiality of tools and methods internally and externally.
  • Explore and recommend effective and creative uses of technologies to enhance instruction and create new learning environments.
  • Collaborate with other team members to develop innovative learning solutions.
  • Build new and update existing instructional content within the EIM Learning Object Repository and assist in the promotion of its use.
