About The Position

The Learning and Development Training Specialist facilitates information technology (IT) service adoption by providing technology training services to the University of Oregon community. Reporting to the Director of Technology Engagement and Enablement, the position requires an instructional design perspective to create engaging and accessible online and in-person tools and training, repeatable processes that show learning over time. In support of the leader’s programs, this includes conducting needs assessments and evaluating training effectiveness. Additional responsibilities include maintaining training records, coordinating training logistics, and ensuring compliance with accessibility standards and relevant regulations. The position requires strong presentation skills, cultural awareness, ability to understand and speak about complex technology topics, and ability to manage multiple projects. The job duties may require occasional travel overnight to university events and/or facilities to deliver training and attend meetings. They must be able to lift and transport training equipment and move and rearrange classroom furniture.

Requirements

  • Minimum five years’ experience designing and delivering educational content in professional environments; relevant academic credentials may be considered.
  • Communicate and facilitate effectively, presenting and disseminating complex information verbally, in writing, and through diverse multimedia formats to varied audiences.
  • Manage and prioritize complex, multi-faceted requests with strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Inspire engagement in educational content, particularly in technology adoption contexts.
  • Build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships by assessing needs and defining desired outcomes.
  • Present information confidently to large groups in a dynamic manner, while actively listening and responding to audience questions.
  • Quickly assimilate technology information to create and distribute training curriculum in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Take initiative by identifying gaps or opportunities and acting proactively without prompting.
  • Demonstrate meticulous attention to detail in all tasks.
  • Maintain a safe, safety-conscious workplace environment.

  • Develop and present training materials across multiple formats, including presentations, e-learning modules, and instructional aids.
  • It is an essential requirement of this position to qualify for and maintain UO driver’s certification eligibility, which includes maintaining an Oregon driver’s license for employment in this position.
  • Position is in Eugene, Oregon and must be able to work onsite at the University of Oregon campus.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience applying adult instructional design principles and models, such as ADDIE.
  • Experience in higher education with instructional design, including offering training within the field of Information Technology.
  • Experience developing training materials in a wide array of media formats, including dynamic presentations, screencasts, written procedures, accessibility standards and policies regarding content creation.
  • Experience working with learning management systems.
  • Experience in basic project management.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical expertise regarding training design, methods, and techniques to customers, both internal and external to IS.
  • Coordinate planning and program development for technical training.
  • Design, implement, and deliver training and tools to facilitate adoption of university services such as cloud storage best practices, effective use of collaboration and communications tools, AI enablement.
  • Provide team building, problem solving, and group leadership.
  • Conduct train-the-trainer courses for university trainers, supervisors, and managers as needed.
  • Provide and develop guidelines and methods to assess and evaluate training needs.
  • Consult university stakeholders to critically evaluate training needs.
  • Consult with all levels of university leadership regarding individual, unit, or organizational problems and assist in identifying training-related solutions when appropriate, identifying specific outcomes of training.
  • Develop or assist in the development of curriculum to achieve the UO IT goals and objectives.
  • Monitor training plans and updates depending on changing training needs.
  • -Assist management in developing monitoring mechanisms to determine effectiveness.
  • Evaluate training provided by external parties to ensure it meets UO needs.
