About The Position

Closet Factory Salt Lake specializes in designing and manufacturing custom cabinetry and storage solutions. We are committed to high-quality craftsmanship and continuous improvement in our manufacturing processes. Position Overview: We are seeking an Engineering Student Intern to support Lean Manufacturing initiatives within our cabinet production operations. This role provides hands-on experience in improving efficiency, reducing waste, and optimizing workflows in a real-world manufacturing environment. The position is ideal for students interested in industrial, mechanical, or manufacturing engineering, with the opportunity to continue part-time during the academic year.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field
  • Interest or basic knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; familiarity with data tracking or analysis preferred
  • Good communication skills and ability to work in a team environment
  • Hands-on mindset and willingness to engage on the production floor

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with woodworking, cabinetry, or manufacturing environments
  • Familiarity with CAD software or shop drawings
  • Exposure to Six Sigma or process improvement methodologies

Responsibilities

  • Analyze cabinet manufacturing processes to identify inefficiencies and improvement opportunities
  • Assist in implementing lean tools such as 5S, Kaizen, and standard work practices
  • Support workflow optimization in cutting, assembly, and finishing operations
  • Collect and analyze production data to track key performance metrics
  • Participate in continuous improvement projects and team meetings
  • Document processes, layouts, and standard operating procedures
  • Work collaboratively with production staff, supervisors, and engineering support
