Lean Manufacturing/Engineering Intern (Summer FT/ PT)

Position Overview: We are seeking an Engineering Student Intern to support Lean Manufacturing initiatives within our cabinet production operations. This role provides hands-on experience in improving efficiency, reducing waste, and optimizing workflows in a real-world manufacturing environment. The position is ideal for students interested in industrial, mechanical, or manufacturing engineering, with the opportunity to continue part-time during the academic year.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field
- Interest or basic knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; familiarity with data tracking or analysis preferred
- Good communication skills and ability to work in a team environment
- Hands-on mindset and willingness to engage on the production floor
Nice To Haves
- Experience with woodworking, cabinetry, or manufacturing environments
- Familiarity with CAD software or shop drawings
- Exposure to Six Sigma or process improvement methodologies
Responsibilities
- Analyze cabinet manufacturing processes to identify inefficiencies and improvement opportunities
- Assist in implementing lean tools such as 5S, Kaizen, and standard work practices
- Support workflow optimization in cutting, assembly, and finishing operations
- Collect and analyze production data to track key performance metrics
- Participate in continuous improvement projects and team meetings
- Document processes, layouts, and standard operating procedures
- Work collaboratively with production staff, supervisors, and engineering support
