About The Position

The Lead Youth Care Worker (LYCW) is responsible for ensuring the appropriate and expected service delivery of residential services for all children in care by supervising and coordinating staff for the safety and well-being of all children in care. Responsible for the documentation and supervision of client’s progress while in care. Facilitate and ensure compliance to all Texas Department of Family and Protective/Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) Minimum Standards on an ongoing basis. Responsible for the supervision of Youth Care Workers and Escort Youth Care Workers.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or a GED
  • At least one (1) year of ORR Residential Care Services experience is required.
  • 1 year of supervisory experience is required.
  • Valid, active driver's license and Clean Driving record is required.
  • Proficiency in computer skills, i.e., Windows, Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, etc.
  • Must be bilingual in English/Spanish (read/speak/write).

Nice To Haves

  • College degree in Human Services field is preferred.
  • 1 year of previous work/volunteer experience with juveniles is preferred.
  • Experience working with children and youth care programs.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for general oversight, Supervising, scheduling and monitoring while providing oversight, implementing policies, procedures, ORR guidelines, regulations and reports to assure effective department functioning and documentation of activity and performance outcomes. Oversee the overall safety, accountability, and security. Identify and report current/potential safety issues in the department.
  • Provide support on ensuring the Behavioral Management System is being followed to motivate youth in care to demonstrate proper conduct. Apply Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) techniques to de-escalate and stabilize the youth when necessary. Conduct camera supervision periodically in order to ensure safety and well-being of all minors in care.
  • Coach and ensure that the direct care staff is completing documentation of observable behaviors; interventions; daily progress notes; and other required information as required and reporting to the treatment team for progress on regular basis as required.
  • Address employee performance issues in a timely manner and maintain documentation of conversations through the use of memos to the record/conference notes. Develop corrective action plans or disciplinary memos to address performance issues of Youth Care Worker staff in collaboration with Program Management Team and HR Department.
  • Provide relief/coverage for YCW department in the form of covering restroom breaks and YCW postings, as needed. Conduct rounds of assigned staff. Ensure staff is supervising minors in accordance with State and Federal policies
  • Ensure the provision of services to youth upon arrival to the program (to include but not limited to meal, clothing, hygiene products, shower, and bedroom assignment).
