In the course of a year, we provide more than 3,000 children, ages 6 weeks through Pre-K with high-quality literacy and STEAM-infused learning; give 58,000 youth and teens access to sports, aquatics, day and resident camps, teen leadership development programs, and employment opportunities; provide over 200,000 members with programs, services, and facilities to enjoy connection and maintain wellness regardless of age; and engage over 25,000 volunteers and donors from across Atlanta to share in the gift of supporting their communities. NATURE AND SCOPE: Under the direction of the Director of Teen Programs, The Lead Y Teen Social Engagement Intern is part of the YMCA of Metro Atlanta’s Social Media Internship Program, focused on elevating youth voice through digital storytelling. The Lead Intern produces content showcasing teen-led events, leadership stories, and wellness topics, while guiding overall content strategy. They lead editorial meetings, oversee storytelling cohesion, and review intern posts before final marketing approval. This role is ideal for teens passionate about media, marketing, and creative leadership. This is a grant funded, stipend paid position.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in high school or equivalent
  • Must be 16 years or older
  • Must have reliable transportation to assigned locations
  • Interest in digital media, social impact, and creative storytelling
  • Pass the State of Georgia criminal background check and a drug screen test
  • Willingness to attend programs/events and engage with peers and staff
  • Strong project management skills: highly skilled at planning, organizing, and supporting multiple projects, establishing priorities, and meeting tight deadlines on a weekly basis in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent attention to detail, follow-through, and execution on compliances.
  • Strong computer proficiency with excellent command of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Must have a high degree of human relation skills, i.e., ability to effectively communicate and manage information to peers, staff and volunteers
  • Exemplify YMCA ideals and leadership qualities
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check including Criminal Record check, Drug Screening, motor vehicle record (MVR) and reference check according to company policy.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the US without current or future sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with social platforms and basic content creation apps is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Capture and produce engaging content from teen programs and events across Metro Atlanta.
  • Lead monthly editorial meetings and support intern storytelling development.
  • Maintain and manage a collaborative content calendar.
  • Provide feedback and final review of intern submissions before they go to Marketing.
  • Ensure consistency in voice, tone, and brand alignment across all posts.
  • Host content features, interviews, or story highlights as needed.
  • Support peer collaboration and foster a team-centered creative process.
  • Track and analyze engagement data to inform ongoing content strategies.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with staff, YMCA members, volunteers and the public.
