About The Position

Friendly’s Ice Cream Manufacturing has an immediate job opening for a Lead Wastewater Technician in our Wilbraham, MA plant location. This person will be responsible for the overall system functionality of the facility’s wastewater treatment plant to ensure compliance with regulatory procedures and reporting practices.  This role is responsible for operating, calibrating, and maintaining all functional wastewater treatment equipment and control systems. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Technical or college education or military preferred
  • 4 to 6 years of wastewater related experience with a wastewater system similar to the one onsite coupled with demonstrated leadership attributes
  • Certification and/or License – Water/Wastewater System Operator (specific for location requirements) or the ability to achieve any appropriate license(s) within 12 months, to the extent required by state regulations
  • Solid knowledge of wastewater treatment systems
  • General microbiological and chemistry skills
  • General maintenance skills
  • Knowledge of and skill with Microsoft Office Suite and company computer systems
  • Leadership skills
  • Able to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Able to interact positively and work effectively with others (interpersonal skills)

Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary operator of the facility and may oversee other operators and maintenance employees conducting wastewater activities.
  • Collect samples from influent flow, effluent flow and operation basins to meet permit requirements and assess system performance.
  • Oversee laboratory testing and water analysis programs for the facility
  • Maintain accurate data records on operational parameters, daily activities, maintenance and collected samples for compliance reporting and operational analysis.
  • Trouble shoot and repair all equipment in the wastewater treatment plant with the cooperation of maintenance department staff.
  • Ensure all paperwork is filled out in a clear, legible and accurate format, and completed with required information. Ensure all required information is documented in accordance with SOPs.
  • Utilizing continuous improvement mindset, assist in identifying opportunities to improve processes.
  • Follow Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Maintain a clean, sanitary and safe work area.
  • Follow all required work safe practices. This would include wearing of all required PPE in designated areas, confined space safety, safe chemical handling, fall restraints, etc.
  • Responsible for food safety, pre-requisite programs and food quality related to designated area.
  • Effective, timely communication and interactions with employees, other supervisors and corporate staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
