About The Position

The purpose of this position is to provide technical advice and act as a lead to Utility System Operators. This is accomplished by performing a wide variety of advanced and specialized duties, providing technical guidance, assigning and monitoring work, and assisting staff with complicated and difficult assignments. Other duties may include completing related tasks as assigned. Shift work, weekends, holidays, standby duty, and call-back duty may be required.

Requirements

  • Two year college program or equivalent combinations resulting in accumulation of similar knowledge or skills.
  • 4-6 years experience. Considerable previous experience required in the same or similar previous positions.
  • Work requires moderate physical exertion. Forces exerted are equivalent to lifting between 10 and 25 pounds.
  • Valid Arizona Class “A” Commercial Drivers License upon hire.
  • Grade 4 Arizona Department of Environmental Quality Certification (ADEQ) in Water Distribution, Wastewater Collection, or Water Treatment within 6 months of hire.
  • National Association of Sewer Service Companies Certification within one year of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Provides technical guidance to Utility Systems Operators, coordinates daily work schedules, and keeps supervisors informed on project and employee performance, including input on hiring and evaluations.
  • Leads installation, maintenance, inspection, and repair of equipment and systems, ensuring preventative maintenance schedules are followed and documented in the CMMS.
  • Assists with developing performance measures, goals, policies, and cross-training programs in compliance with OSHA standards.
  • Collaborates with other departments on water quality, capacity, capital projects, and safety compliance, and communicates operational needs and concerns to management.
  • Resolves technical issues and customer complaints; interprets maps and manuals; prepares reports; and trains and supports staff.
