About The Position

The Domains org at Squarespace is responsible for building and maintaining a platform that enables millions of users to purchase and manage custom domains with ease and reliability. Our work sits at the intersection of user experience, infrastructure, and third-party integrations, ensuring that customers can trust Squarespace as the foundation of their online identity. We’re looking for a Lead Test Engineer to elevate the quality, reliability, and testability of our systems. In this role, you’ll work closely with engineers, product managers, and designers to create robust test strategies, write automated tests, and proactively identify quality risks before they reach customers. You'll be a key quality advocate in a fast-moving, customer-centric environment. This is a hybrid role working from our New York City office 3 days per week. You will report to the Engineering Manager for Domains Growth in NYC.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of experience in software quality engineering or SDET roles, with a proven track record in test automation and strategy.
  • Strong programming skills in a language such as JavaScript, Python, or Java.
  • Proficiency in test frameworks such as Jest, Cypress, Playwright, Selenium, or similar.
  • Familiarity with JUnit, Mockito, and/or Cucumber.
  • Experience working in an agile environment with cross-functional product teams.
  • A thoughtful, systematic approach to test planning, including risk-based prioritization.
  • Familiarity with testing third-party integrations, asynchronous systems, and distributed environments.
  • Experience mentoring other engineers and influencing quality standards at the team or org level.

Responsibilities

  • Define, implement, and own test strategies for high-impact features across domain search, purchase, and management flows.
  • Develop and maintain automated test suites across multiple levels of the stack (unit, integration, and end-to-end).
  • Collaborate with product and other engineers to ensure testable requirements and identify edge cases early in the development cycle.
  • Investigate, triage, and verify complex bugs and quality issues reported by customers or internal teams.
  • Improve CI/CD testing infrastructure to ensure fast and reliable feedback loops.
  • Drive quality-related initiatives and advocate for best practices in test architecture, observability, and defect prevention.
  • Mentor engineers and help establish a quality-first culture within the team
