The Lead Terminologist is the guardian of data interoperability. This role ensures that clinical data remains "semantic" and usable as it moves between systems, which is critical for patient safety, clinical decision support, and national reporting. Detailed Scope of Work & PWS Alignment: Terminology Development & Implementation: Provide terminology analysis, design, validation, and maintenance for the VA-DoD Federated Interagency Terminology Service (FITS) and VA SNOMED Extension. Event Set Hierarchy (ESH) Remediation: Resolve defects in the Oracle Health Millennium ESH. Implement terminology best practices to ensure data integrity across the enterprise. Standards Development Organization (SDO) Engagement: Facilitate engagement with HL7 FHIR, LOINC, and SNOMED CT. Manage submissions to ensure VA requirements are integrated into national standards. New Term Rapid Turn-around (NTRT): Manage the NTRT process for Allergy Reactants and Adverse Reactions, ensuring terms are adjudicated and deployed to production on a continuous basis. Advanced Technical Proficiencies: Standards: Expert knowledge of SNOMED CT, LOINC, ICD-10-CM, and FHIR. Tools: Proficiency in Symedical, MED-RT, and terminology mapping tools. Policy: Deep understanding of ONC and CMS regulations regarding clinical terminology.
