About The Position

In this role, the successful candidate performs medically prescribed diagnostic radiographic procedures while providing day-to-day clinical leadership for the X-Ray section. Serves as the lead clinical expert and primary resource for technologists, supporting workflow coordination, staff development, quality assurance, and adherence to departmental protocols, hospital policies, and regulatory standards.

Requirements

  • Associates degree or Certificate from accredited School of Radiologic Technology.
  • Valid New York State Radiologic Technologist license.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 5 or more years of experience is required.
  • Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day clinical leadership and act as the primary point of contact for X-Ray technologists
  • Assign and coordinate workflow to ensure efficient patient throughput and coverage
  • Serve as a clinical resource and subject-matter expert for complex or non-routine examinations
  • Mentor, coach, and support technologists, including onboarding and competency validation
  • Monitor image quality and adherence to protocols; address variances and escalate issues as needed
  • Support performance feedback, training initiatives, and implementation of departmental policies
  • Collaborate with leadership on staffing needs, quality improvement initiatives, and operational planning
  • Escalate clinical, technical, staffing, or patient care concerns to leadership in a timely manner
  • Perform diagnostic radiographic examinations independently in accordance with departmental protocols and physician orders
  • Accurately position patients and imaging equipment to obtain optimal diagnostic images while minimizing radiation exposure
  • Select and adjust technical factors to ensure image quality and patient safety
  • Utilize lead markers, shielding, immobilization devices, and positioning aids appropriately
  • Generate high-quality digital images; produce hard copies when required
  • Review images for technical quality and completeness prior to submission to PACS/EMR
  • Follow special instructions indicated on radiographic requisitions
  • Verify patient identity using two identifiers in accordance with hospital policy
  • Explain procedures clearly to patients; address questions and reduce patient anxiety
  • Ensure patient comfort, privacy, and dignity before, during, and after procedures
  • Recognize and respond appropriately to medical emergencies; notify RN, PA, or MD immediately
  • Adhere to radiation safety principles (ALARA), including proper beam restriction and shielding
  • Maintain and return radiation detection badges and rings as required
  • Follow isolation precautions and infection prevention protocols
  • Access and verify patient information using HIS/RIS systems in compliance with HIPAA regulations
  • Schedule, modify, and track examinations in RIS, documenting begin, completion, and departure times as required
  • Transmit images and reports accurately to PACS and the electronic medical record
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of film library and image retrieval functions
  • Demonstrate proficiency in imaging equipment setup, operation, and routine quality control checks
  • Perform visual and manual QC of imaging equipment and diagnostic monitors
  • Identify and report equipment malfunctions, missing items, or safety concerns promptly
  • Maintain cleanliness of imaging areas; prepare rooms, equipment, and supplies in advance
  • Restock supplies as needed and notify supervisor of shortages
  • Adjust workflow to accommodate STAT and emergency examinations
  • Maintain cooperative and professional relationships with patients, physicians, nurses, and staff
  • Assist with departmental projects, reports, and operational activities as assigned
  • Seek guidance from supervisors regarding complex or questionable cases
  • Maintain confidentiality of all patient and departmental information
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of departmental operations
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and assist patients throughout the work shift
  • Ability to lift and transfer patients with or without assistance
  • Exposure to ionizing radiation (within regulated limits)
  • All duties are performed in compliance with hospital policies, departmental procedures, NYS regulations, ARRT standards, and applicable federal requirements.
