The Lead Technician will be responsible for performing the quality inspections of receiving, in-process and final inspection of mechanical, optical and/or electronic components as well as finished products to ensure meeting material and product specifications before released for production use or shipment to end customers. The individual will be responsible for inspection of incoming components, assembled hardware and/or wafers, by utilizing various types of precision measurement equipment such as measuring microscopes, optical comparators, gauge pins and blocks, calipers, micrometers and other relevant measurement tools and devices. With minimal supervision, the candidate is expected to make decisions on acceptance/rejection and/or to report any findings not covered in inspection procedures to engineering for further evaluation. The individual will be responsible for following inspection plans or work instructions to determine if parts meet requirements per engineering drawings. Ability to interpret instructions (verbal, written, illustration) is essential. U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position may need a U.S. Security Clearance within one year of the start date. This is an onsite position located in Goleta, CA.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a minimum of an AA/AS degree (or other 2 year post high school training) and a minimum of eight (8) years or more of quality inspection related experience or optical component manufacturing experience and prior experience in the following areas
  • Math skills such as algebra or higher.
  • Experience using precision inspection tools such as Coordinate Measurement Microscopes (CMM), surface flats, calipers, OD and ID micrometers, dial indicators, gauges, etc.
  • Experience following detailed inspection plans and work instructions.
  • Experience using MS Office applications and database software.
  • Experience with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing on complex tooling and hardware (GD&T).
  • Experience applying quality requirements, detailed engineering drawings, determining dimensions and tolerance specifications for pass/fail assessments.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced college degree in Manufacturing Technology or Technical degree in precision measurement, or equivalent education with a minimum 6 years’ experience in directly related field (some technician coursework / AA degree preferred / ASQ certification for inspection a plus)
  • Previous experience planning and accomplishing assigned tasks and goals
  • Experience solving basic problems
  • Experience programming, setting up, and performing complex measurements on a Zeiss Coordinate Measuring Machine
  • 6+ years working in a clean room environment
  • 6+ years working in ESD and FOD controlled areas
  • Experience using gauge capability and Statistical Process Control (SPC) charts
  • Experience in CMES, PRISM, or Common PDM database tools
  • Wire bonding and Soldering operations or inspection certification/training
  • Experience conducting First Article Inspections (FAI) and maintaining appropriate records

Responsibilities

  • Schedule and prioritize workload in areas of responsibility under moderate supervision to meet schedule in a production environment
  • Conduct ad hoc quality inspection requests to support Engineering activities
  • Coordinate with Quality and Manufacturing to investigate and record nonconforming products
  • Review and approve inspection plans
  • Conduct document reviews
  • Tracking production status through factory database tools and communication with factory supervisors
  • Assists in orienting, training, assigning, and checking the work of junior level technicians
