About The Position

The Technical Trainer Lead is responsible for developing, delivering, and maintaining effective training programs to improve the skillsets of both new and tenured operators. This role ensures team members are equipped with the knowledge and tools to meet performance goals while fostering a safe and consistent work environment. The Technical Trainer will work alongside the Lead Trainer Technician and will serve as a leader in the Training department.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in the relevant trade area.
  • Leadership training required.
  • Associate degree in a technical field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and manufacturing experience (metal fabrication preferred).
  • 5+ years of manufacturing experience highly desirable.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to train, motivate, and support team members.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, work orders, specifications, and safety/operating manuals.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and adaptability in non-standard situations.
  • Basic math skills, including ability to work with fractions, decimals, algebra, and geometry.
  • Computer literacy to update training lists, records, and materials.
  • Proficient using quality measuring and calibration tools and equipment.
  • Must hold a valid Michigan Driver’s License.
  • Must qualify as a licensed lift truck driver at DeWys Manufacturing, Inc.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, and communicate with team members.
  • Occasionally required to sit for administrative duties.
  • May be required to climb, balance, or crawl under machines for training or inspections.
  • Must have vision capabilities including close, peripheral, and depth perception.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts, vibration, and electrical risk.
  • Occasional exposure to high places, fumes, airborne particles, and caustic chemicals.
  • May work outdoors when unloading supplies.
  • Noise level is typically loud; hearing protection and safety glasses are required at all times.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with Operations Team Leads and Points to ensure operators and machines achieve established production and quality goals.
  • Develop, document, and maintain clear, standardized work instructions and communication methods for machine and tooling use.
  • Monitor equipment conditions, reporting issues and coordinating with Lead Trainer Technician and Maintenance as needed to ensure safe and effective operation.
  • Deliver hands-on training to operators, ensuring they are competent in performing daily tasks, meeting metrics, and following updated training plans.
  • Maintain and update training materials, ensuring alignment with current practices and operator needs.
  • Support production by assisting with part runs and hot jobs when necessary.
  • Provide input into team member performance evaluations and support supervisors during the review process.
  • Provide performance evaluations of the Trainers including regular 1:1’s.
  • Responsible for driving Training departmental KPIs.
  • Work closely with HR to coordinate new hire onboarding.
  • Use multiple systems to track and communicate training progress for operators. For example, SharePoint, Outlook, Paylocity, Global Shop.
  • Participate in quarterly projects that drive process improvements.
