Lead, Startup & Ventures Marketing

MongoDBSan Francisco, CA

About The Position

We’re looking for a highly creative, entrepreneurial, and organized Lead, Startup & Ventures Marketing to expand MongoDB’s AI-native marketing strategy and strengthen our presence across the startup and VC ecosystem in the Bay Area. This is a highly strategic, regional leadership role focused on ecosystem building, execution, and operating at scale. You will be responsible for establishing MongoDB as the database of choice for high-growth, venture-backed startups across the Bay Area, as well as serve as MongoDB’s primary representative to the local startup ecosystem. In this role, you will be responsible for developing relationships with VCs, accelerators, founders, and community partners to design and deliver high-impact programs, events, and partnerships that drive awareness, adoption, and long-term affinity for MongoDB. As the regional startup leader, you will own the planning and lead the team responsible for the execution of startup-focused initiatives, including hackathons, demo nights, founder dinners, and conference-adjacent activations. This role sits at the intersection of partnerships, community, events, and content, and requires a leader who can pair strategic vision with hands-on execution.

Requirements

  • Have 8+ years of experience in marketing, community, ecosystem, or events roles focused on startups, developers, or technical founders
  • Have experience managing and developing high-performing teams, with the ability to set strategy while supporting strong on-the-ground execution
  • Possess deep familiarity with the Bay Area startup ecosystem, ideally with established relationships across VCs, founders, accelerators, and key founder communities
  • Have experience working in or closely with startups or venture capital firms, with a strong understanding of how early-stage companies operate and grow
  • Be comfortable engaging technical audiences, with enough understanding of startup engineering workflows to shape credible and compelling programming
  • Thrive in 0-to-1 environments, building strategy, programs, and operational processes from the ground up
  • Be highly organized and execution-oriented, able to drive initiatives from strategy through delivery while managing multiple stakeholders
  • Be data-driven, able to define success metrics, track impact, and communicate results clearly
  • Communicate confidently and effectively with founders, investors, and senior internal stakeholders
  • Operate with a high degree of autonomy, collaborating with a globally distributed team while maintaining an active presence within the Bay Area startup ecosystem

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the MongoDB representative within the Bay Area startup ecosystem: Develop deep relationships across the Bay Area startup community, building trusted connections with top VCs, founders, operators, and ecosystem influencers
  • Drive high-value startup acquisition: Design and execute a targeted acquisition strategy focused on engaging and converting high-potential startups in the region
  • Expand MongoDB’s physical presence in the Bay Area: Lead an ecosystem strategy centered on high-impact founder programming, including VC-partnered events, demo days, hackathons, founder dinners, and other flagship community events
  • Amplify MongoDB’s startup presence through digital channels: Collaborate with Brand, Social, and Digital Marketing teams to extend regional startup initiatives across social media, earned content, and owned media
  • Own cross-functional alignment for the regional startup audience: Embed the startup and developer audience into marketing initiatives driven by Revenue Marketing, Strategic Events, DevRel, and other internal teams, ensuring programs and activations effectively serve the startup ecosystem
  • Measure impact and continuously optimize: Define and track key success metrics for startup engagement, such as attendance quality, funded-founder participation, and program applications, and use insights to refine strategy and programming
