About The Position

This Lead Shipping position provides direction to co-workers to ensure all shipping documents and functions are completed accurately and timely. The role involves selecting the least cost carrier and maximizing parcel weight by combining products for the same customer. Key functions include sorting packages, using a hand scanner for shipment status, and inspecting boxes for quality, proper sealing, labeling, and damage. The Lead Shipping individual is expected to demonstrate role model work habits, foster teamwork, enhance team morale, and provide constructive feedback and on-the-job training to employees. They will continually seek opportunities for operational improvement, encourage a clean work environment, and maintain certifications for operating departmental equipment, performing safety checks, and reporting machine problems to the Area Manager. Charging industrial truck batteries is also a duty. Employees are also expected to participate in safety and health program activities, including reporting hazards and incidents, wearing required personal protective equipment, and supporting safety committee activities.

Requirements

High School diploma or GED equivalent required, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Ability to multi-task and work a flexible schedule if required
High energy, personal drive, and self-motivation to accomplish business goals
Effective communicator
Detail-oriented, strong multi-tasking, and organizational skills
Computer literate / spreadsheet experience to enter inventory, deliveries and scheduling in order to track, analyze and manage operations effectively
Motivated to train, learn, and lead by example
Able to work from verbal and written instructions
Able to work accurately with numbers and use a calculator

Responsibilities

Ensures that the least cost carrier is selected and used as the appropriate transporter
Maximizes parcel weight through combining product to be shipped to the same customer
Sorts packages and uses a hand scanner to determine shipment status
Checks boxes to ensure they are sealed, properly labeled and free from any damage; makes sure all quality standards are met
Demonstrates “role model” work habits and fosters teamwork within the department
Enhances team morale – discusses issues and suggestions with Area Manager and follows up with team members
Conducts on-the-job training and provides constructive feedback to employees
Continually seeks opportunities to improve department operations
Encourages team members to maintain a clean and organized work environment
Achieves and maintains certifications required to operate equipment necessary within assigned department
Performs safety checks prior to use
Reports machine problems to Area Manager
Charges industrial truck batteries as needed
Is willing to be cross trained as a lead in other departments
Participate in safety and health program activities including immediately reporting hazards, immediately reporting unsafe work practices and incidents to supervisors
Wearing required personal protective equipment
Participating in and supporting safety committee activities
