About The Position

This position is responsible for: Oversees, accepts and processes residents staying in shelter overnight where stay is longer than three months; receives and receipts fees received from residents; monitors the activity of residents on an assigned shift ensuring safety, security and compliance to house rules; maintains accurate and complete records and logs containing pertinent information; ensures that shelter is maintained in a neat and proper order. Monitors the behavior and activities of clients participating in a Salvation Army recovery/housing program; guards the security the safety of Salvation Army facilities and buildings to ensure compliance with housing rules and policies and to protect the safety of staff and clients. Provides training and guidance to other resident monitors.

Requirements

  • Ability to meet attendance requirements.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.
  • Ability to respond to emergency situations quickly and calmly while maintaining control and initiating the proper corrective action.
  • Ability to perform combinations of sitting, standing, climbing stairs, and walking on a frequent change basis.
  • Distance of travel is usually within the same building.
  • Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5-10% of work time.
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. preferred but not required, AND One year experience working with the public performing security or social service work preferred, OR Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • First Aid and C.P.R. Certification
  • Valid State Driver’s License, preferred.
  • MAC Certification required to dispense medication

Responsibilities

  • Serves as lead resident monitor to other staff by providing necessary training and guidance to ensure all shelter activities are carried out according to established policies and procedures; reports any deviation from policy and/or procedure to Corps Officer.
  • Ensures that all rooms are in proper order before arrival of residents; checks fire equipment and ensures proper working order.
  • Checks clients into the shelter; prepares and monitors client intake cards; prepares resident roster.
  • Monitors the consumers with responsibility for the preparation and distribution of meal tickets; monitors the distribution of towels, linens, and personal hygiene items; secures and distributes client medications as required.
  • Updates intake cards as needed; obtains clients signature on forms as well as shelter rules and regulations.
  • Opens and closes the shelter doors at designated hours of operation.
  • Completes required paperwork representing client intake for the day; inputs data into the computer in order to maintain computer records and generate client lists; completes security log.
  • Ensures compliance with house rules; completes and files incident logs as necessary.
  • Answers telephone and responds to questions regarding the lodge/shelter operations.
  • Wakes up shelter clients at designated time and instructs them to collect their sheets; ensures that all residents are out of the lodge/shelter by the designated time.
  • Administers client medications as needed.
  • Administers drug and alcohol testing at program staff request, when observing unusual client behaviors or signs of drug use or intoxication, and anytime clients return from off-campus passes; informs primary counselor of positive testing results; documents the results for client files.
  • Monitors client's behavior and activities to ensure compliance with program/facility rules guidelines; directs clients in appropriate behavior in order to stay in the program/facility.
  • Monitors telephones, intercom system and fire alarm system; notifies proper authorities when law enforcement assistance is needed.
  • Monitors and assists clients signing in/out of the facility; ensures compliance with program/facility rules.
  • Conducts random and routine bed checks to ensure compliance with house rules.
  • Inspects baggage for contraband or inappropriate items which jeopardize the security and safety of clients and staff; may operate a metal detector.
  • Makes visual contact with residents on a regular scheduled basis; records violations of program regulations and completes required reports; notifies the Program Director in a timely manner.
  • Prepares and maintains client logs and records for assigned shift; ensures the accuracy and completeness of the same.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all clients including their location, conversation, and records.
  • Locks and unlocks gates and main entrances as scheduled; assists residents if they are locked out of their room.
  • Responds to emergencies by dialing 911 and providing assistance to residents.
