As a Residential Advisor, you’ll be the heartbeat of our dorm community. You’ll mentor, motivate, and guide young adults (ages 16–24) as they build brighter futures through education and career training. The Exeter Job Corps Academy is looking for a Lead Residential Advisor to work in the student dorm and provide students ages 16-24 with a safe, clean, and structured living environment that fosters student retention, satisfaction, achievement, and success in the Job Corps program. As our student body continues to grow, we need more qualified candidates to round out our talented, caring staff. WHAT IS EXETER JOB CORPS ACADEMY? We support the Job Corps program’s mission to teach eligible young people the skills they need to become employable and independent and place them in meaningful jobs or further education. Our center specializes in Culinary Arts, Welding, Electronics Engineering, and Patient Care. EMPLOYMENT AT EXETER JOB CORPS Employment at Exeter Job Corps is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check, employment verification, education verification, professional reference check and motor vehicle record check. WORK SCHEDULE Thursday-Monday, 11:30pm-8:30am / Tuesday-Wednesday, OFF

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required, advanced degrees preferred
  • A minimum of one-year Job Corps or related program experience required
  • A valid in-State Driver’s License preferred
  • Physical requirements include sitting, standing, climbing, walking, lifting, pulling and/or pushing, carrying, reaching, stooping and crouching.
  • Demonstrates the ability to lift 40 pounds and/or the ability to assess the lift load in order to ask for necessary assistance.

Responsibilities

  • Creating a safe, respectful, and inclusive living space
  • Leading by example—setting the tone for responsibility and growth
  • Coaching students through life skills, conflict resolution, and personal development
  • Keeping things running smoothly with dorm checks, reports, and teamwork
  • Being the trusted adult students turn to for support and encouragement
  • Supervise and control dormitory conditions; evaluate situations and conditions within the dormitories and make decisions or recommendations
  • Assist in the training and evaluation of residential living staff
  • Perform administrative duties involving student passes, leaves, evaluations, progress reports, emergencies, terminations, etc. for assigned shift
  • Perform residential advisor functions as necessary to ensure safety and proper student behavior in the dormitories
  • Communicate with families of students by mail and phone as required to resolve problems and assure the well-being of students
  • Coordinate activities of dormitory including entertainment, unit competitions, and unit courts
  • Inspect dormitory areas and recommend facility maintenance work where needed.
  • Direct dorm patrol and daily cleanup
  • Other duties as assigned
