About The Position

Demonstrates leadership responsibilities of assuring and promoting quality patient care through the coordination and integration of patient care in assigned areas. Functions as a primary lead RN. Performs balancing of the staff personnel schedule/creation of staff call schedules. Performs practice and regulatory compliance monitoring to promote patient and employee safety, quality patient care outcomes, and safe work environment. May co-lead departmental Practice Council and facilitate other group activities such as the creation of a departmental newsletter. Troubleshoots operational issues and works to resolve conflict situations.

Requirements

  • West Virginia Registered Nurse licensure.
  • Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.
  • Five (5) years of experience in critical care or acute care setting.
  • Demonstrates communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work within all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to prioritize and deal with a variety of situations at any given time.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Specialty Nursing Certification in applicable area preferred.
  • Experience scrubbing/circulating in a variety of services.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with nursing staff and implements and evaluates targeted patient care outcomes, utilizing expert leadership skills and improvement strategies. Coordinates daily schedule, staff coverage and expertise, harmonizing equipment availability and function, as well as, physician access and satisfaction.
  • Serves as Lead Registered Nurse by supporting the work of the Charge RN and serving as a decision-making resource.
  • Assists with employee evaluations and personnel scheduling including the design of call schedules.
  • Serves as first-line communicator with clinical preceptor to facilitate orientation and staff educational opportunities.
  • Assists in establishing clinical practice policies and procedures. Conducts audits and monitors practice compliance including the establishment of PI action plans.
  • Supports, guides and reviews peer decision-making. Provides the Director/Manager/Clinical Preceptor with feedback regarding staff performance and patient outcomes
  • Functions as clinical expert and shares rationale for nursing interventions to mentor staff.
  • Bases decisions made/actions taken on relevant scientific principles, established standards of care and/or research findings. Demonstrates ability to articulate to healthcare providers and customers evidence-based practice.
  • Provides, models, and teaches coordinated and comprehensive patient care including assessment, nursing interventions, expected outcomes and evaluation utilizing an interdisciplinary team approach.
  • Models appropriate delegation using customer service and behavioral standards. Assists with monitoring of patient, staff, and physician satisfaction.
  • Plans and organizes care processes with provider groups. Monitors service continuity and outcomes.
  • Coordinates appropriate team response to a life-threatening emergency.
  • Demonstrates expertise in caring for patients across the age continuum.
  • Demonstrates ability to use and resource equipment in a safe manner; is a resource for staff. Manages new technology and clinical trial evaluations.
  • Provides input into department’s capital equipment planning process.
  • Demonstrates accountability for nursing practice and identifies learning needs.
  • Exhibits professional behavior on a consistent basis and coaches staff in demonstrating professional practice.
  • Demonstrates self-motivated professional and personal development by assuming responsibility for continued learning. Applies knowledge gained to patient care delivery and shares with peers to impact practice.
  • Annually collaboratively develops individual development plan. Provides facilitation to unit-based teams to implement PI initiatives including the monitoring of patient and process outcomes. Assumes responsibility for trend monitoring.
  • Assists clinical preceptor to address compliance issues. Determines unit learning needs and participates in development of individualized orientation plans.
