SandyPines is seeking a dynamic and talented Lead Recreation Therapist. SandyPines is a 149 bed Residential Psychiatric Facility servicing children and adolescents ages 5 to 17. The facility is located in beautiful sub-tropical South Florida and is nestled beside Jonathan Dickinson Sate Park which creates a rustic, roomy outdoor atmosphere. SandyPines is at the county line of both Palm Beach and Martin Counties and is just minutes away from the shores of the Atlantic Ocean. The Lead Recreation Therapist provides Therapeutic Recreation services to residents as part of the treatment team to meet their specific physical and psychological needs in accordance with SandyPines’ policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) preferred, or a Degree in Recreation Therapy.
  • Detail oriented and ability to successfully multi task in a fast pace environment.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service and organization skills.
  • Highly effective listening skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Expressive Arts Therapy experience preferred.
  • ROPES experience preferred.
  • Prior experience working with children and adolescents preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Instructs patients in activities and techniques designed to their specific physical or psychological needs.
  • Assist the treatment team in developing a treatment plan with varied interventions based on assessment, interests and objectives of therapy.
  • Encourages residents to acquire new skills and promotes leisure activities.
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining unit schedules, which include all programming. Distributes the schedules to the social services department, charge nurses, CNO and CEO.
  • Assists in advance planning of artistic, expressive and creative therapeutic, safe, age and developmentally appropriate group activities for the residents on each unit.
  • Facilitates artistic, expressive and/or creative therapy groups, as planned above, minimum of 1x weekly for all residents as assigned by the Master group schedule and as prescribed according to the resident’s treatment plan.
  • Ensures content of group activities is not repetitive.
  • Continually researches available resources on creative expressive therapies and utilizes multiple resources – i.e. books, internet suggestions, instruments, workbooks, play therapy materials, etc. to plan and facilitate unique and creative topics for groups.
  • Generates enthusiasm and excitement when facilitating creative and expressive therapy groups with the residents as evidenced by direct observation, self/staff report.
  • Documents group interventions accurately and in a timely fashion ensuring individualized treatment plan problems are stated and addressed and the content of the activity/note is relevant to individualized treatment issues.
  • Assists in coverage within the department as directed.
