About The Position

Copley Hospital, located in Morrisville/Stowe VT, is looking for a Lead Radiologic Technologist to join our Diagnostic Imaging team! The Lead X-Ray/OR Charge Technologist is responsible for overseeing daily radiographic operations across the hospital, clinics, and Operating Room to ensure the delivery of high quality diagnostic imaging services. This role provides technical expertise, strong leadership, and guidance to imaging staff, ensuring adherence to departmental protocols, safety standards, and regulatory requirements. Serves as the primary trainer and mentor for students, travelers, and new staff, ensuring proficiency in all aspects of radiography, adherence to provider preferences, and the ability to meet departmental standards and expectations. The Lead Technologist performs diagnostic radiographic procedures, assists with workflow coordination, maintains equipment readiness, and supports staff development through training, mentorship, and performance feedback. This role is vital in coordinating Radiology’s support of surgical cases while balancing the department’s busy outpatient referral base, emergency add-ons, and inpatient needs. This position works closely with Operating Room staff to monitor surgical schedules, communicate real-time changes, and allocate Radiology resources to efficiently support scheduled, add-on, and urgent cases during on and off hours. This position works closely with the PACS administrator for any issues or QA and facilities the outcome. This position collaborates with the Director and Staff Scheduler to ensure coverage in all areas related to Radiography. The Lead Technologist also assists the Radiology Manager/Director with operational planning to achieve departmental goals and serves as a liaison between technologists, radiologists, and management to promote effective communication, workflow efficiency, and excellence in patient care. May also perform CAT scan, Mammography, MRI, or Ultrasound duties, with advanced certification in selected areas through ARRT, ARDMS, or other governing bodies. This position is Full-Time (PT available). Copley Hospital has a variety of shifts available across Full-Time, Part-Time, and Per Diem needs. Requirements

Education Required: Completion of formal Radiological Technology training in an AMA approved school. Associates Degree.
Experience Required: Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience with leadership or supervisory experience, preferred. Demonstrated technical expertise and knowledge of current imaging equipment, procedures, and quality assurance practices. Experience mentoring students or training staff in clinical imaging techniques.
License and Certification Required: ARRT- The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. Current Vermont License in radiology. Continuing education credits as required for the modality. BLS certification (Basic Life Support) required. Ongoing continuing education as required by ARRT and state regulations.
Skills Required: Good interpersonal, communication, problem solving and mathematical skills. Has the ability to balance multiple priorities. The ability to work collaboratively within a team focused on patient centered care and continuous improvement. Ability to think creatively and function well under stress. Skilled in scheduling, workflow management and staff development. Mechanical, computer, and clerical skills needed. Ability to use diagnostic equipment, computer, fax, photocopier, and other needed equipment. Follow radiation safety practices.

License and Certification Desired: Advanced Certification by ARRT if expanding into CT and/or MRI and registered by ARDMS for Ultrasound.

Responsibilities

Quality Assurance/Control- Assists with quality control/assurance programs including imaging audits. Participates in quality control projects as needed. Promotes a culture of safety and service excellence.
Training- Leads the onboarding and training of new employees, students and travelers with emphasis on Copley’s provider imaging preference.
Performs diagnostic radiographic procedures across multiple modalities (X-ray, CAT scan, Mammography, MRI, Ultrasound) in accordance with departmental protocols, safety standards, and regulatory requirements. Refers to job descriptions for MRI, CT, Mammography and Ultrasound.
Radiographs- Sets up techniques, prepares identification, positions patient, determines exposure, adjusts equipment following departmental procedures. Reviews and evaluates images to determine if images are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes.
Portable equipment-Operates in OR and bedside as necessary following departmental procedures.
Patient Care- Explains procedures and observes patients to ensure safety and comfort during exam. Help with such tasks as dressing and changing to seriously ill, injured or disabled patients. Coordinates with other staff to assure appropriate patient care is provided.
Radiation Safety- Understands and practices radiation safety measures and protection devices to comply with regulations and to ensure safety of patients and staff.
Examinations Rooms- Sets up examination rooms ensuring that all necessary equipment is ready. Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of work area. Follows infection control practices.
Clerical duties- Assists with record keeping, answers phones, schedules appointments, and prepares changes.
Contrast Media- Prepares and administers oral contrast to patients per department protocol. Monitors patient conditions and reactions, reporting any abnormal signs to Radiologist and/or ED.
Patients- Transports patients to examination room. Prepares and maintains Room. Transports patients to other area of hospital.
Sterile Techniques- Practices when required by procedure.
Equipment: Reports any hazardous conditions or equipment breakdowns to the responsible supervisor.
Computer System- Follows department and hospital protocols for use of the PACS system and the hospital computer system.
Supplies-Requests and orders supplies as necessary to keep Material on hand at all times.
Schedule- Coordinates work schedule with Department Director to assure workload coverage. Follows Hospital, Department policies and procedures, and follows code of conduct policy.
Assessment- Meets the psycho-social needs of the patients being served. Demonstrates competency in the delivery of patient care in a manner that is appropriate to the patient's age, physical ability and intellectual development. Demonstrates proficiency in adapting care to meet the needs of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric populations.
Oversees daily radiographic operations in the hospital, clinics, and Operating Room, ensuring high-quality, safe, and efficient imaging services.
Performs diagnostic radiographic procedures across multiple modalities, including X-ray, CAT scan, Mammography, MRI, or Ultrasound, in accordance with departmental protocols and regulatory standards.
Serves as the subject matter expert and primary resource for training and mentoring students, travelers, and new employees, ensuring consistent adherence to departmental standards, safety guidelines, and best practices.
Collaborates closely with Operating Room staff and leadership to monitor surgical schedules, communicates real-time changes, and allocates Radiology resources effectively to support scheduled, add-on, and urgent cases.
Partners with radiologists, providers, and staff to accommodate individual provider preferences and workflow needs while maintaining protocol compliance and patient safety.
Maintains and troubleshoots imaging equipment, ensuring readiness for clinical use and coordinating maintenance or repairs as needed.
Supports staff development through performance feedback, coaching, and professional guidance to foster a skilled, competent, and efficient team.
Assists the Radiology Manager/Director with operational planning, workflow optimization, and quality improvement initiatives to achieve departmental goals.
Serves as a liaison between technologists, radiologists, providers, and management to promote effective communication, patient-centered care, and operational efficiency.
Monitors adherence to departmental policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements, addressing deviations proactively and providing education, as needed.
