About The Position

Eaton's AER HQ Headquarters division is currently seeking a Lead Quality Engineer, Additive Manufacturing, Aerospace Group. Eaton's Charleston, SC location has long served as a Machining Center of Excellence for our Aerospace Group, with just under 200 employees, manufacturing hydraulic pumps for commercial and military aircraft. Additive manufacturing (AM) is an exciting new technology that offers substantial benefits to the Aerospace industry. Eaton Aerospace has leveraged the technology to create superior products and capture profitable growth for the businesses. This has resulted in significant program growth since the inception of additive mfg. in the Eaton Aerospace business. The number of awarded flight hardware metal component awards is driving the need for more expert roles in the areas of non-distructive inspection and quality. This new position will act as the Additive Manufacturing (AM) Quality and Manufacturing expert for the Digital Design and Additive manufacturing center in Charleston, S.C. The role will be responsible for defining inspection techniques working with customers, engineers and AM process specialist to implement quality and inspection tools specifically for AM. The expected annual salary range for this role is $93750.03 - $137500.04 a year. Please note the salary information shown above is a general guideline only. Salaries are based upon candidate skills, experience, and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. The candidate will oversee the creation of inspection techniques, standards and guides and will prove their effectiveness. They will complete MSA, PPAPs, first articles along with gage R&R studies. They will write procedures and work instructions, implement continuous improvements projects to optimize the process for cost and quality, supporting our new digital initiatives to implement Model Based Entreprize. The role will be deeply involved with the engineering and AM process team to develop the process for a wide variety of AM programs. This role will oversee some of the day to day operation, maintain a quality system in the AM center and ensure safe work practices are maintained in their area of responsibility.

Requirements

  • Bachelor in Engineering from an accredited institution
  • 4+ years of experience in quality engineering
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship
  • This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR. ITAR defines a U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
  • No relocation benefit is being offered for this position. Only candidates within a 50-mile radius of the facility listed will be considered. Active-Duty Military Service member candidates are exempt from the geographical area limitation.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and perform inspection technique and plan for new product development made by additive manufacturing
  • Review control plans and process plans for drawing conformance
  • Provide SQE support with key suppliers
  • Write work instructions and procedures for AM quality processes
  • Complete MSAs, PPAPs, FAI, capability studies, and other quality studies
  • Lead the creation and maintenance of process FMEAs
  • Lead quality councils
  • Lead MRB events as AM quality support
  • Drive RCCA events both within AM and from AM suppliers when required
  • Lead internal audit efforts such as layer process audits, special process audits, and coordinate fresh eye audits
  • Own the Standard production process for AM quality in CHS
  • Support inspection techniques for CT scan, X-ray, FPI and other NDT methods - work with suppliers and customers
  • Drive and implement process improvements to reduce process cost and improve process quality
  • Maintain AM AS9100 certification and own the NADCAP certification for AM in CHS
  • Attend and support customers design reviews and meetings
  • Support customer audits and visits
  • Manage the AM quality system and support the calibration system when needed
  • Develop quality procedures for in process monitoring and analyze data from the in-situ tools
  • Thoroughly understand the AM machines and all support equipment
  • Define and execute on CI projects
  • Support new MES implementation and recommend quality improvements
