About The Position

The Lead Quality Control Technician supports plant operations by performing and reviewing quality‑related documentation, executing quality checks, supporting Quality Technicians as needed, and assisting in maintaining compliance with all food safety and quality programs. This role requires a strong understanding of QA procedures, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively across departments. The Lead will fill in for Quality Technicians and assist with investigations, audits, and training activities as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required (additional coursework or certifications in food safety or quality assurance is a plus)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with strong skills in Excel for data analysis, reporting, and documentation management
  • Familiarity with HACCP principles, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), SQF standards, and FSMA compliance requirements preferred
  • Previous experience in Quality Assurance or a food safety-related role is preferred
  • Microbiological experience preferred
  • Must have consistent and reliable attendance

Responsibilities

  • Support Quality Technicians by providing guidance, floor support, and coverage as needed
  • Train employees in SOPs, quality procedures, and food safety topics as assigned
  • Maintain training documentation and re-certification schedules
  • Conduct new hire training, maintain training, and quiz materials
  • Review production paperwork for accuracy and compliance
  • Issue and report violations for GMP and document non-conformances, as necessary
  • Identify and accurately report defective materials, food safety hazards, and potential contaminants
  • Assist with nonconformance investigations and CAPA documentation
  • Assist with internal audits of the facility and warehouse by established schedules
  • Maintain and manage logs for calibrations, documentation, and equipment as required
  • Assist with third party sample submissions for raw materials, environmental monitoring, and finished goods testing
  • Maintain inventory of laboratory equipment and documentation supplies
  • Participate in audit preparation activities and support R&D projects when needed
  • Coach new and current employees on food safety and quality requirements, as necessary
  • Assist food safety and quality tasks as issues arise
  • Assist with review of quality and safety program forms, tasks, and updates
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Quality Assurance Manager and Assistant Manager
  • Assist with back-up for the Quality Assurance Specialist as necessary
  • Must be highly motivated, able to follow direction, and perform assigned work duties independently with minimal supervision
  • Must be able to speak, listen, and effectively communicate with team members both verbally and in writing
  • Must be able to work collaboratively with multiple departments and plant leadership
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to analyze and interpret technical information, mathematical concepts, and form conclusions
  • Commitment to gain a thorough understanding of company policies and procedures and supporting their application
  • Able to read, understand, and strictly follow written procedures for multiple controlled processes
  • Able to organize and coordinate multiple tasks and work under time constraints to meet deadlines
  • Involves collection, organization, processing, verifying, and filing of required paperwork
  • Accuracy, attention to detail, and excellent organizational skills a must
  • Lift up to 50 lbs and push or pull with up to 50 lbs. of force
  • Stoop, kneel, climb, or squat on an occasional basis
  • Use hands to grip, pinch, handle, reach, or feel on a frequent basis
  • Able to stand, walk, and sit for duration of shift
  • Able to work full time, approximately 45-50 hours/week, primarily day turn hours
  • Involves extensive keyboard operation and regular use of office equipment
