About The Position

The Lead Psychologist, Autism Services provides strategic and clinical leadership to unify and expand autism diagnostic and treatment services across the lifespan, ensuring continuity of care from early childhood through adulthood. The role drives system integration, builds a robust training pipeline, standardizes evidence based care pathways, and advances outcomes driven quality improvement while maintaining an active clinical caseload aligned with areas of expertise and training needs. This position sits at the lead psychologist level within the UPMC clinical psychologist career ladder, with opportunities to expand protected administrative time and scope as program development, workforce growth, and system integration milestones are achieved. Sign-On Bonus Details: $5,000 for a 1-year contract $7,000 for a 2-year contract

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree in Psychology (PsyD or PhD) from an accredited institution.
  • 5 years of clinical experience.
  • Excellent clinical interviewing and assessment/therapy skills to work with patients and families.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures within the facility, the system, the state and nationally.

Responsibilities

  • Unify and scale lifespan diagnostic services (i.e., early childhood through adult) by establishing a centralized, high capacity diagnostic hub to reduce fragmentation and ensure consistent evidence based assessment standards.
  • Design and expand comprehensive autism programming that integrates with and complements state-defined Intensive Behavioral Health Services (IBHS) and offers stand alone outpatient behavioral health interventions for higher functioning youth, teens, and adults.
  • Establish standardized clinical pathways and documentation standards (e.g., screening, assessment, treatment, transitions of care).
  • Ensure interdisciplinary coordination, functioning as a clinical consultant to peers in psychiatry, general pediatrics, rehabilitation medicine, etc. to ensure continuity of care and appropriate referrals.
  • Serve on institutional committees to advance care quality and represent autism services in cross system initiatives and partnerships as well as at the regional and state level (e.g., Autism Services Education Resources and Training; ASERT).
  • In collaboration with operations directors, oversee clinical aspects of referral triage, waitlist management, and template optimization to meet access targets across age groups.
  • Maintain an active clinical caseload delivering assessment and/ or evidence based psychotherapies matched to patient access and training program needs.
  • Oversee internship and fellowship tracks focused on competency-based training in autism assessment, intervention, and robust supervision models to build an internal hiring pipeline for program growth and expansion.
  • Provide direct, case-based clinical supervision and in-service training for licensed staff (e.g., clinical psychologists, master’s level therapists) to facilitate staff acquisition of advanced competencies.
  • Implementation Science Coordinator (advanced phase): Identify and coordinate funding and protected time for staged rollouts of evidence based psychotherapies (e.g., PEERS, ESDM, PCIT, RUBI, CBIT) and related skill sets to sustain ongoing professional development of core clinical staff.
  • Define key metrics for program evaluation (e.g., access, timeliness, clinical outcomes, patient experience) and translate findings into targeted quality improvement initiatives and report results to executive leadership.
  • As time and interest permit, support research and scholarly activity aligned with overall program goals for sustainable implementation, quality, growth, and scale.
