About The Position

Demonstrates and promotes Holy Cross Health principles. Directs daily activities of the Public Safety personnel as assigned and coordinates those activities with other departments and agencies as needed. Assumes responsibilities of the supervisor during his/her absence. Functions as a senior Public Safety Officer when the supervisor is present. Follows broad instructions and operates within the guidelines of ministry policies plus applicable local, state, and federal laws in carrying out those duties. May be required to engage and physically control acts of aggression and threatened acts of violence.

Requirements

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience: Two or more years of experience in healthcare safety and security, law enforcement, military or other related field required
  • Ability to prioritize and problem solve
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Analytical ability required to evaluate processes and to recommend improvements as needed
  • Demonstrates reliability and flexibility with work schedule
  • Demonstrates excellent customer service skills
  • Valid Florida driver’s license within 30 days of employment.
  • Class D Security License from FL Dept. of Agriculture & Consumer Services: need state issued license or proof of application (state issued acknowledgement card) within first 30 days of employment. Proof of State issued license to be provided within 90 days.
  • Must be eligible to obtain a Class G license.
  • All license/certification must always be current and active.

Responsibilities

  • Leads safety officers in day-to-day duties and assumes responsibilities of the supervisor during his/her absence.
  • Takes action as required, participating in all emergency codes and requests for assistance.
  • Able to act independently, managing critical situations that may involve aggressive behavior.
  • Takes action as necessary to ensure the safety of Hospital employees, patients and visitors.
  • Assists in moving, lifting or dragging individuals to safety.
  • Assists in bringing safety equipment to the scene of an emergency or as required.
  • Assists in restraining individuals as necessary to maintain the safe environment of the hospital.
  • Assists in restraining individuals as required to prevent those individuals from placing themselves or others in harm’s way.
  • Participates as an active member of various Security and Safety committees
  • Serves as a departmental resource specialist, consulting on Safety and Security issues to employees.
  • Assists in the development of policies and procedures related to Protective Services throughout Holy Cross.
  • Reviews all departmental Security and Safety Policies and Procedures on an ongoing basis
  • As directed, evaluates the effectiveness of Protective measures throughout the hospital through reports.
  • Prepares recommendations and documentation that provides direction to correct reported deficiencies
  • Reviews the following daily: security related incidents and reports of employee injury, and other related security hazards.
  • Conducts Security and Safety investigations of significant incidents including interviews, gathering witness statements, documentation and reporting
  • Participates in in-service education of the hospital personnel and others as it relates to the safety and security of the Hospital.
  • Participates in orientation of new employees to the Safety and Security Program.
  • Maintains professional competence through participation in continuing education and other learning experiences
  • Remains informed of current trends in Hospital Security and Safety.
  • Serves as a role model, participating in professional organizations and community activities.
  • Conducts surveillance rounds and patrols hospital grounds
  • Ensures safety violations are corrected.
  • Enforces Federal, State and Local fire regulations.
  • Responds to burglar and entry alarms.
  • Demonstrates intermediate computer skills using all Public Safety software programs writing concise detailed reports with proper spelling and grammar.
  • Ability to use basic electronics such as a digital camera, closed circuit television equipment, Digital Video Recorders / DVDs, and multiple line telephones.
  • Can demonstrate proficiency in and assists with the training of new officers in operations of CCTV, Access Control, Fire Alarm, Infant Protection, Public Safety Reporting/Dispatching program systems and any/all additional systems applicable to assigned location.
