About the Team The Groups Platform team is responsible for building and operating the foundational audience systems that power Klaviyo. Segmentation is one of the most critical capabilities in the product, enabling customers to deliver personalized, high-performing marketing that drives engagement, revenue, and retention. As part of Klaviyo’s Data Infrastructure pillar, this team owns the systems behind lists and segments—ensuring they are performant, reliable, and scalable, as data volumes and use cases grow. These systems sit at the intersection of data platform, product experience, and business impact, powering how customers define, analyze, and activate their audiences. Segmentation is a key reason customers choose Klaviyo over other platforms. Research shows that customers who effectively use segments see improved ROI, lower churn, and increased expansion. At the same time, customer needs are evolving, and its the team’s mission to deliver advanced expressiveness, faster iteration, and deeper insights into performance and what actually drives results. The Role We’re looking for a Lead Product Manager to drive the strategy and execution of Klaviyo’s segmentation platform. In this role, you will define how audiences are created, evaluated, and leveraged across the product to enable precise and effective targeting at scale. You’ll work closely with cross-functional partners to build a segmentation system that is fast, reliable, and expressive. This includes improving performance and correctness of segment evaluation, expanding the flexibility of segment definitions, and enabling customers to better understand and optimize their audiences. This role is ideal for a product leader with strong systems thinking who enjoys solving complex data problems while also delivering intuitive, high-impact customer-facing capabilities.

Requirements

  • 7–10+ years of product management experience, with meaningful experience building data platforms, infrastructure products, or technically complex systems.
  • Strong technical depth with the ability to work closely with engineers on system design, performance, and scalability.
  • Experience working with large-scale data systems, query systems, or real-time/near-real-time evaluation systems.
  • Track record of building customer-facing products on top of complex backend systems.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience defining and managing system-level metrics and SLAs.
  • Ability to balance infrastructure investments with user-facing product improvements.
  • Excellent cross-functional communicator who can align engineering, product, and business stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in marketing technology, personalization systems, or audience platforms is a strong plus.

Responsibilities

  • Define and own the product vision and roadmap for Klaviyo’s segmentation platform.
  • Build and operate segmentation as a first-class data product, optimized for correctness, performance, and scale.
  • Partner with engineering to improve system performance, including segmentation latency, reliability, and SLA adherence.
  • Evolve the expressiveness of segmentation (e.g., nested logic, advanced conditions) to meet the needs of mid-market and enterprise customers.
  • Ensure segment definitions are consistent, explainable, and resilient as data complexity grows.
  • Develop capabilities that help customers analyze, iterate on, and optimize high-value audiences.
  • Introduce recommendations and insights to guide customers toward effective segmentation strategies based on best practices and their own data.
  • Define and track key metrics, including latency (P95), success rate, freshness and correctness SLAs, and system reliability.
  • Lead cross-functional initiatives across product, engineering, data, and go-to-market teams to improve how audiences are defined and activated.
  • Communicate product strategy, tradeoffs, and technical decisions clearly across stakeholders.
