About The Position

ENERGY SYSTEMS GROUP is looking for a Lead Plant Operator to join our Operation Services team at our Fort Detrick facility located in Fort Detrick, Maryland. This position is on site. The Lead Plant Operator has responsibility for all critical equipment operators at Fort Detrick Energy Production Facility. This individual oversees boiler, chiller, and conditioned emergency power systems operation under the direction of the Facility Manager and Assistant Facility Manager. The Lead Plant Operator also oversees the day-to-day task list of facility operations, maintenance tasks and other duties as assigned.in Fort Detrick in Frederick, MD. The essential functions of the position include: Responsible for the day-to-day operations of all facility equipment to ensure compliance with safety, regulatory and performance standards. Oversees all subcontractors and facility personnel involved in equipment operation and maintenance. Monitor and adjust plant equipment performance, taking corrective actions as needed to optimize energy efficiency. Operate plant control systems, HMI devices and perform electrical switching operations, including racking out circuit breakers.. Work a rotating shift (Dupont Schedule) that includes 12-hour shifts on both days and nights. Provide on-call after-hours support. Participate in spill equipment deployment and emergency response. Maintain plant operating records and logs. Obtain measurements and readings and compare with industry/manufacturer standards. Report problems requiring further action to the Facility Manager and shift relief as soon as possible. Perform minor preventative maintenance activities to include inventory of stocked items and grounds maintenance as required. Perform Water Chemistry Analysis and make changes to chemical feeds in response to results of water chemistry. Completes all Company and Regulatory training including computer-based training Train, mentor and cross-train other plant personnel to maintain high standards of plant readiness. Enforce all safety requirements including, but not limited to: Issues work permits in compliance with safe work practices and ensures contractor safety Perform random security inspections and checks. Prepare and apply Lockout/Tagout of all facility equipment when required. Prepare confined space entries to include permitting and set up of required safety equipment. Wear a respirator, Fall Protection, and other PPE when conditions require Obtain and maintain licensing for plant owned or rented MHE equipment. Use appropriate PPE at all times Maintain a clean and orderly work area (requiring cleaning of non-office areas and maintaining the cleanliness of the Control Room) Orders/purchases materials and supplies as required Maintain preventative and repair work records and logs in the Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (including processing inventory transactions for work orders via the CMMS) Perform duties of Facility Operations Manager in his/her absence, as well as other duties as deemed necessary by management Stay up to date and in compliance with company policies and SOPs Successful completion of company training program and qualification as Lead Plant Operator by the Facility Manager

Requirements

  • Current and valid Maryland Grade 1 or 2 Stationary Engineers License
  • Basic understanding of electrical theory

Nice To Haves

  • Current and valid Maryland Grade 1 Stationary Engineers License
  • 5 years of experience working with emergency power generation, high pressure steam systems, and chilled water systems
