About The Position

This role focuses on activities related to the support services functions, such as dietary and food services, environmental services, general facilities, repair and maintenance, parking, sterilization and transportation to ensure all required support activities are completed in a timely manner and meet the organization's quality standards and expectations. In addition, this role focuses on performing the following General Facilities, Repair & Maintenance duties: Operates, monitors and maintains, troubleshoots, repairs and replaces facilities mechanical components and systems such as electrical equipment, HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) and plumbing. A technical role that accomplishes work through a specialized knowledge or skills gained through a combination of vocational education, training, apprenticeship (craft, skilled and semi-skilled), and experience. A specialist level role that requires advanced knowledge of operational procedures and tools through extensive work experience and requires vocational or technical education. Works under limited supervision for non-routine situations and may be responsible for leading daily operations, and trains, delegates and reviews the work of lower level employees and problems typically are typically difficult and non-routine but not complex. This position carries out physical plant operations, preventative maintenance, and on call services to ensure that patient comfort and safety are maintained. Lead assigned staff in daily operations, assignments, and scheduling. Train assigned staff on proper procedures for equipment maintenance, repair and installation.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Third class engineer license OR Five (5) years’ experience in boiler operations.
  • Proficient in communicating, reading, and writing in English.
  • Basic Computer Skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and meet established deadlines.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to make independent decisions, good judgment and/or assessment.
  • Ability to handle stress due to constant pressure and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of building infrastructures and industry standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Third class engineer license.
  • Lead boiler plant operator experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team in daily operations providing leadership, guidance, efficient organization, assignment of duties and scheduling on shift.
  • Read, record, and inspect heating, plumbing, refrigeration, HVAC systems including high pressure steam boilers, chillers, compressors, pumps, motors, electric and pneumatic controls, water storage tanks, dumps, drains, etc. on a regular basis.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on systems and equipment including but not limited to high-pressure steam boilers, air conditioning systems, tonnage package units, ice machines, compressors, pumps, motors, fans, air units, emergency lights, and generators as assigned.
  • Respond to emergency calls relating to loss of power, steam, water, heat, ice, and snow, etc. Operate appropriate emergency equipment including but not limited to emergency generators, electric power transfer switches, high pressure steam boilers, water systems, etc.
  • Diagnose and rectify problems within physical plant such as loss of heat, loss of hot water, power outage, loud noises, hot bearing, units overheating, broken belts, jammed controls, etc.
  • Notify appropriate authorized personnel of impending problems, or major equipment or system failures which need specialized repair.
  • Start, stop, and operate all equipment according to established procedures and criteria.
  • Perform preventive maintenance tasks and repairs as assigned.
  • Enter operating data in appropriate logs and logbooks. Prepare deficiency lists and reports as needed.
  • Maintain collaborative, team relationships with peers and colleagues to effectively contribute to the working groups achievement of goals, and to help foster a positive work environment.
  • Complete all training requirements and courses established and/or provided by the department.
  • Train staff on proper operation and repair of equipment, and proper procedures for equipment installation.
  • Responsible for on-call coverage as assigned.
