About The Position

Lake Regional Health System is looking for a dedicated, professional Lead Phlebotomist to join our Laboratory team. With our state-of-the-art hospital and network of clinics, therapy sites, and pharmacies, Lake Regional offers a wide range of employment opportunities in our community.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required or equivalent.
  • Annual influenza vaccine and COVID vaccine are required.
  • Looking for a team player with the willingness to take initiative to complete tasks.
  • Previous blood draw experience is strongly preferred.
  • This position handles blood and blood products throughout the hospital.
  • Must be a self-starter

Responsibilities

  • Assures that laboratory specimens are collected and delivered back to the laboratory within the guidelines established by laboratory administration.
  • Assigns collections to laboratory phlebotomists.
  • Assists laboratory and nursing staff with difficult venipunctures.
  • Schedules phlebotomy personnel to provide adequate coverage within budgetary guidelines.
  • Assists laboratory and nursing managers with the training and annual competency assessment of all personnel who perform blood collection procedures.
  • Coordinates outside health fairs
  • Obtain patient specimen and process specimens received from outside sources.
  • Follows all collection procedures as written.
  • Obtain blood specimens from patients by appropriate methods.
  • Strictly follows procedure for patient identification and the provision of information pertinent to the collection of a specimen.
  • Receives patient specimens, verify proper collection, orders requested procedure(s), perform all necessary documentation accurately.
  • Perform STAT and urgent collections in an appropriate time frame.
  • Assist in keeping policy and procedure manuals current.
  • Assists in instructing staff members in new policies and procedures.
  • Notifies laboratory administration and/or pathologist of unusual situations as appropriate.
  • Labels all specimens appropriately.
