Requirements
- Current and valid state Certification as a CPT I or II, if in a state where required
- Current BCLS (AHA) certificate upon hire and maintain current
- Minimum 2 years of clinical laboratory experience required
- 1 year of previous supervisory/management experience preferred
- High School diploma or equivalent.
Responsibilities
- Performs computer data entry, filing, telephone communication and other clerical duties
- Possesses adequate knowledge of the terminology of tests ordered in the laboratory
- Demonstrates proper phlebotomy technique and the use of equipment in collecting specimens from newborns to geriatric patients
- Processes microbiology, immunology, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, chemistry and blood bank specimens
- Processes specimens for referral to reference laboratories
- Stocks and orders routine supplies
- Maintains the cleanliness of storage areas, trays, centrifuges, refrigerators, freezers and work areas
- Processes or loads specimens on automated laboratory instrumentation in accordance with established policy and procedures
- Performs annual staff performance evaluations
- Provides staff training and orientation
- Evaluates and ensures staff competency
- Ensures staff compliance with all regulatory requirements
- Develops and maintains policies and procedures appropriate to the department
- Ensures staff compliance with all laboratory and hospital policies
- Provides for a safe work environment in evaluating and implementing PPE and other safety phlebotomy devices
- Actively participates in the collection and evaluation of QA data for the development of Performance Improvement initiatives
- Other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned by the department manager/director.
