Requirements

  • Current and valid state Certification as a CPT I or II, if in a state where required
  • Current BCLS (AHA) certificate upon hire and maintain current
  • Minimum 2 years of clinical laboratory experience required
  • 1 year of previous supervisory/management experience preferred
  • High School diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Performs computer data entry, filing, telephone communication and other clerical duties
  • Possesses adequate knowledge of the terminology of tests ordered in the laboratory
  • Demonstrates proper phlebotomy technique and the use of equipment in collecting specimens from newborns to geriatric patients
  • Processes microbiology, immunology, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, chemistry and blood bank specimens
  • Processes specimens for referral to reference laboratories
  • Stocks and orders routine supplies
  • Maintains the cleanliness of storage areas, trays, centrifuges, refrigerators, freezers and work areas
  • Processes or loads specimens on automated laboratory instrumentation in accordance with established policy and procedures
  • Performs annual staff performance evaluations
  • Provides staff training and orientation
  • Evaluates and ensures staff competency
  • Ensures staff compliance with all regulatory requirements
  • Develops and maintains policies and procedures appropriate to the department
  • Ensures staff compliance with all laboratory and hospital policies
  • Provides for a safe work environment in evaluating and implementing PPE and other safety phlebotomy devices
  • Actively participates in the collection and evaluation of QA data for the development of Performance Improvement initiatives
  • Other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned by the department manager/director.
