About The Position

UPMC Community Osteopathic is seeking a motivated and experienced Lead Phlebotomist to join our team full time on the day shift, with every third weekend and holiday rotation. In this leadership role, you'll guide daily department operations, ensure accurate and timely specimen collection and processing, and maintain a safe, professional environment for patients and staff. You'll also mentor and support new team members while working collaboratively with medical technologists to deliver exceptional laboratory services. We're looking for a dedicated professional with at least two years of phlebotomy experience, preferably in an outpatient setting, who is ready to take the next step in their career. Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 2 years experience.
  • Must have the ability to establish work priorities and handle several procedures simultaneously.
  • Must interact with other departments.
  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal

Nice To Haves

  • Certification from an accredited Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant program is preferred.
  • Medical terminology knowledge and laboratory information system experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Collects and processes specimens accurately and on time, following established procedures and positive patient ID policies.
  • Ensures proper labeling, documentation, and packaging of specimens per testing requirements.
  • Communicates professionally with patients, clients, and coworkers; promptly escalates unresolved issues to the supervisor.
  • Confirms handwritten orders and verifies billing, diagnosis, and provider information as needed.
  • Trains, mentors, and orients new staff, delegates priorities and tasks to team members when appropriate.
  • Performs clerical duties such as filing, faxing, data entry, and mail preparation.
  • Maintains a clean, organized, and well-stocked work area, including waste disposal and lab coat management.
  • Participates in teams, projects, and other assigned duties to support departmental goals.
  • Ensures compliance with all organizational policies, safety standards, and dress code requirements.
