About The Position

The Lead Pharmacy Technician supports the daily operations of the outpatient pharmacy under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist by overseeing technician workflow, coordinating staffing and training, and ensuring compliance with regulations and quality standards. This role serves as a liaison between pharmacy technicians, pharmacists, and management, promoting efficient, high-quality, and patient-centered care by optimizing outpatient and transitions-of-care pharmacy services in alignment with institutional goals and federal regulations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree or completion of a pharmacy technician training program preferred
  • Licensure as a Pharmacy Technician with the Mississippi State Board of Pharmacy required
  • Effective leadership abilities, with the aptitude to motivate and guide a team towards achieving common goals
  • Exceptional customer service skills and the ability to communicate effectively with patients, healthcare professionals, and colleagues
  • Strong knowledge of prescription medications, pharmaceutical calculations, and insurance billing procedures
  • Proficiency in pharmacy software systems and computer literacy for maintaining accurate records and performing data entry
  • Ability to multi-task and adapt in a fast-paced healthcare environment

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a pharmacy technician
  • Experience in an outpatient or retail setting preferred
  • Familiarity with pharmacy systems (e.g., Epic, QS/1) and 340B platforms (e.g., Cervey)
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and lead on daily activities of pharmacy technicians in the outpatient setting
  • Assist in hiring, training, scheduling, and performance evaluation of pharmacy technician staff
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal pharmacy laws and safety guidelines, including HIPAA regulations and pharmacy policies
  • Ensure compliance with 340B program requirements in coordination with the pharmacy’s 340B Analyst
  • Act as a resource for staff regarding workflow optimization, problem-solving, and quality assurance
  • Assist in the implementation and execution of pharmacy policies, procedures and services to improve operational efficiency and patient satisfaction
  • Ensure all dispensing systems and other pharmacy equipment are functioning properly
  • Troubleshoot issues related to workflow delays, system problems, claim adjudications, or patient concerns and escalate as needed
  • Run Meds-to-Beds reporting monthly and maintain data on Meds-to-Beds usage, cost, and revenue
  • Assist patients, including long term care residents, with Medicare Part D plan options and participation
  • Collaborate closely with other healthcare professionals to optimize patient care and outcomes
  • Contribute to a positive work environment by fostering teamwork, open communication, and continuous improvement initiatives
