Responsibilities The Lead Pharmacy Technician is defined as someone who under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, assist in the various activities of the pharmacy department not requiring the professional judgment of the pharmacist. The lead pharmacy technician also has supervisory and other responsibilities, such as Pyxis, Meditech, and Drug Ordering Expertise. Duties include, but not limited to: technical duties such as maintaining patient records; setting-up, packaging and labeling medication doses; filling and dispensing routine orders for stock supplies of patient-care areas; maintaining inventories of drug supplies and mixing drugs with parenteral fluids. Other responsibilities include physician order entry, setting and updating the scheduling of technicians, supervising use of automated drug delivery equipment (Pyxis), maintaining quality assurance programs and generally overseeing the performance of pharmacy technicians. The scope of care provided includes: General Medicine/Surgical, Intensive Care Services, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Pediatrics, Emergency Care, Transitional Care, Geriatrics and Outpatient Services.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five (5) years current hospital pharmacy technician experience required
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) required or obtained within 6 months of hire date
  • State Pharmacy Technician License/Registration required (if required by state regulations
  • Proficiency with various computer systems, EHR, ADS, and drug preparation or delivery systems
  • High school diploma or equivalent

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate of ASHP-accredited or equivalent pharmacy technician training program preferred
