About The Position

The Lead Fuel Ceramic Engineer will be responsible for designing and providing technical oversight to the nuclear ceramics fabrication processes and The Lead Fuel Ceramic Engineer will be responsible for providing technical oversight to the nuclear ceramics fabrication processes and supporting fuel manufacturing operations. Additionally, this position will be responsible for product development activities, as related to fuel pellets. The Lead Fuel Ceramic Engineer is part of the team responsible for developing and designing fuel bundle technologies for application in nuclear reactors for customers of GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy (GVH) and the Global Nuclear Fuel (GNF) business.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree of Engineering in Ceramics, Materials Science, Mechanical or Chemical from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum 5 years of work experience in ceramic manufacturing, ceramic performance, or nuclear fuel performance
  • The REQUIRED work location is our Headquarters in Wilmington, NC
  • This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree or greater in an engineering discipline from an accredited college or University
  • Nuclear Industry knowledge / experience
  • Strong understanding of fuel manufacturing processes and quality methods/sampling
  • Cross-functional managerial or project leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated problem solving ability and ability to perform complex engineering analyses resulting in thorough and complete documentation
  • Strong communication skills and capable of articulating specific technical topics or assignments
  • Ability to work effectively within a highly collaborative environment
  • Ability to make presentations to large groups
  • A self-starter willing to take initiative

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the engineering specifications for nuclear fuel (UO2) powder and pellets
  • Provide technical in-reactor ceramics performance expertise with regards to fuel reliability and thermal-mechanical performance
  • Support other engineering organizations, i.e., Mechanical and Material team tasks
  • Support business New Product Introductions as related to ceramics.
  • Provide engineering support for improvements of shop yields and Lean initiatives.
  • Effectively interface with support organizations to collectively meet the goals and objectives of the Fuel Manufacturing Operation.
  • Address emergent customer and manufacturing issues
  • Provide well written, well organized documented engineering analyses to assure design adequacy
  • Perform design reviews and production readiness reviews
  • Develop procedures and work to improve engineering productivity
