As a Lead Mold Tooling Technician, you’ll sit at the intersection of quality and production—strengthening tooling reliability so our products reach patients without compromise. Role impact Advance the quality, processes, products, packaging, and materials that power Alcon’s mission. Provide critical 7-days-a-week Toolroom support across four molding production suites. Core responsibilities Execute highly complex tasks in mold tooling design and plastic injection molding to enhance operational efficiency within established procedures. Exercise advanced technical judgment and problem-solving to make significant decisions within scope. Apply GxP discipline: follow SOPs and maintain precise, complete documentation. Uphold rigorous quality control and all applicable regulatory standards. Complete mandated training; drive continuous improvement in daily work. Maintain precision molds in a production setting; perform PM, repairs, and modifications. Capture and document measurement data; prepare and share reports. Operate toolroom assets: manual mills, lathes, surface grinders, CNC, and EDM. Disassemble, clean, repair, and replace defective components across complex molding tools. Conduct mold/tooling setups and repairs; verify part quality and critical parameters; evaluate molds and recommend modifications; perform basic machine and mold maintenance; monitor and verify daily production quantities and efficiencies per SOPs. Assess new processes, components, products, and systems against engineering specifications. Test, adjust, and maintain electromechanical, mechanical, optical, pneumatic, hydromechanical, and pressure-type measuring/indicating instruments. Define methods and procedures using detailed specifications, blueprints, drawings, and requirements. Lead day-to-day task assignment and oversight for other technicians. Isolate problems for deeper analysis and resolution.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Fluent in English (read/write/understand/communicate)
  • 1 year of relevant experience
  • Mechanical Troubleshooting Skills
  • Tool/Die/Mold Repair Skills
  • Experience in a Manufacturing Environment
  • Injection Molding Experience

Nice To Haves

  • Toolroom experience in a Medical Device manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of mold design, function, and applications
  • Skill in diagnosing production issues to determine when mold repairs are required
  • Understanding of fits, tolerances, and allowable mold running parameters
  • Ability to manufacture/modify and measure precision components to ±0.0002” or finer
  • Basic hot runner repair capability
  • Proficiency in mold polishing
