About The Position

Lead Mold Technician Job Description Summary Setup and operate machines in accordance with standard practices. Facilitate and monitor training of Mold Technicians to maintain an acceptable level of production, quality and housekeeping in accordance with good manufacturing practices in an injection molding environment. Ensure that the molding department produces high quality, low cost molded components, by running press within validated parameters, inspect parts, setting & pulling molds, diagnosing & repairing problems and implementing continuous improvements. Ensures compliance with BD quality systems, policies, procedures and best practices, and all local, state, federal and BD safety regulations, policies and procedures. Regular, punctual attendance is an essential job function. Ability to read and write and converse in English. Willing and able to uphold BD Values. Requirements

  • High School diploma/GED - Required
  • General mechanical aptitude - Required
  • NAMc Mold Tech ITR level 4 – Required (can be obtained once in position)
  • Two years’ experience in injection molding (pulling, setting, starting) - Preferred
  • Scientific molding technique knowledge – Preferred
  • General knowledge of plastic materials and processes – Proficient
  • General knowledge of mold design and operation – Proficient
  • Understanding of hydraulic circuits as applied to injection molding machines – Basic
  • Molding auxiliary equipment - Basic
  • Mechanical ability - Proficient
  • Troubleshooting and problem solving efficiently and effectively – Proficient
  • Ability to keep and maintain detailed documentation/communication - Proficient
  • Independent thinking – Proficient

Responsibilities

  • Lead activities on the molding production floor, monitor and track performance of machines and personnel, and maintain a high level of communication/escalation.
  • Work with the Molding Supervisor to ensure the Mold Techs and Utilities work safely, maintain a high level of quality, and follow company policies and procedures.
  • Assist with the set-up, changeovers, and maintenance of molds and auxiliary equipment.
  • Make minor repairs to machines and equipment and notify proper personnel of necessary major repairs.
  • Verify correct set-up of molds, presses and auxiliary equipment before machine start up.
  • Establish proper molding conditions.
  • Assist Supervisors and Engineers with training programs for new employees and ensure Mold Tech training needs are being met.
  • The Lead Mold Tech should be continually working on improving the training program of the Mold Tech group.
  • Scheduling unplanned mold, press, auxiliary repairs.
  • Ensure production output and changeovers satisfy the production plans.
  • Effectively communicate with Mold Techs, Mold Repair, Supervisors, and other support groups.
  • Facilitate the Mold Techs to maintaining mold cavitation and cycle time requirements.
  • Familiar with all inspection procedures and standards.
  • Responsible for the regular and periodic monitoring of product for acceptable quality to the specifications.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and prepare required reports, including but not limited to: In process inspections IMM process sheets Mold Pull/Set sheets Mold layout sheets Housekeeping/cleaning/task checklists Production downtime reports
  • Maintain compliance to all safety, environmental procedures, and good manufacturing practices.
  • Work with limited supervision while leading and facilitating daily tasks among the Team.
  • Other duties as required to support the needs of the business.
