About The Position

Under the general supervision and direction of the Assistant Director, Membership & Wellness, the Membership Services Lead serves as the liaison between the Assistant Director and the students who work as Membership Services Representatives. The student assistant is exposed to and must be able to handle a wide variety of people and personalities.

Requirements

  • Minimum of one-year job-related experience required.
  • Must be enrolled at California State University, Long Beach with at least six units and be in good standing.
  • Successful candidate will possess knowledge of recreation and fitness activities and the ability to connect well with constituents.
  • Experience in customer service and effective communication skills are desirable.
  • Previous cash register experience and knowledge of computer programs is preferred.
  • Must be willing to work with an ethnically and culturally diverse group of student staff and volunteers.
  • Exceptional customer skills, dependability and punctuality are a must.
  • Must possess enhanced leadership skills and be able to work in a diverse environment.
  • The position requires that the incumbent be patient, trustworthy, dedicated, responsive to member needs, and outgoing.
  • The employee must have strong customer service skills, be adaptable to last-minute changes, and have the ability to work effectively with a wide variety of people and personalities.
  • The applicant must be available to work about 15 hours per week during regular business hours, Monday through Sunday.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience working as a Membership Services Representative at the Student Recreation and Wellness Center preferred.
  • Recreation Administration, Kinesiology, and Health Services majors are preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • ASSISTS WITH THE RECRUITMENT, HIRING, AND TRAINING OF MEMBERSHIP SERVICES REPRESENTATIVES STUDENT STAFF.
  • ASSISTS IN SCHEDULING THE WORK HOURS OF STUDENT STAFF.
  • ASSISTS WITH LEADING COORDINATION OF ALL RELATED MEMBERSHIP SERVICES AND MARKETING, INCLUDING DEVELOPING, IMPLEMENTING, REPRESENTING AND SUPERVISING SPECIAL EVENTS AND OUTREACH FOR BOTH PARTICIPANTS AND STAFF.
  • HOLDS MONTHLY MEETINGS DURING THE SEMESTER WITH STAFF AND COMMUNICATES THROUGH EMAIL, TEAMS AND GROUP MESSAGING REGARDING WORK-RELATED CONCERNS AND ISSUES.
  • GREETS AND WELCOMES ALL VISITORS TO THE DEPARTMENT WITH COURTESY AND DEVELOPS RELATIONSHIPS THAT ENSURE MEMBER RETENTION AND SATISFACTION.
  • EXPLAINS MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS AND ASSISTS CONSTITUENTS IN REGISTERING FOR PROGRAMS BY PERFORMING A VARIETY OF TRANSACTIONS TO MAINTAIN MEMBER RECORDS, PROGRAM REGISTRATION, CASH RECEIPTING, CREDITS, AND FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE.
  • PROVIDES TOURS TO POTENTIAL MEMBERS AND ESTABLISHES THE BENEFITS OF PARTICIPATING IN THE DEPARTMENTS’ ACTIVITIES THAT MEET INDIVIDUAL NEEDS.
  • EMBODIES ASI RECREATION’S MISSION AND DEMONSTRATES IT ON A DAILY BASIS.
  • ASSISTS WITH THE OPENING AND CLOSING OF THE MEMBERSHIP SERVICES DESK, AS WELL AS SECURING EQUIPMENT AND CASH BAGS.
