Responsible for performing medical laboratory procedures and reports results in a prompt, accurate and reliable manner according to established hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Assist Lab Administrative Director with oversight of staff to include hiring, orientation, training and competency. Performs and demonstrates proficiency and understanding of the clinical laboratory, assists in instructing other personnel as assigned, and performs with a perceptive depth of clinical laboratory tests and procedures which require the exercise of independent judgment and responsibility. The role oversees testing accuracy, quality control, regulatory compliance, and equipment maintenance. The incumbent will carry out duties by adhering to the highest standards of ethical and moral conduct, acts in the best interest of Three Crosses Regional Hospital, and fully supports the mission, vision, and values of Three Crosses Regional Hospital.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Bachelor’s degree in MLS-Medical Lab Scientist (Formally MT Certification)
  • 1-3 years’ experience as a Medical Lab Scientist Technologist (MT). Previous Lead experience preferred.
  • Certification in any of the following: NCA (National Credentialing Agency), ASCP (American Society for Clinical Pathology), HEW (Health Education & Welfare), or AMT (American Medical Technologies).

Responsibilities

  • Lead Medical Laboratory Technologist ensure supervises daily laboratory operations, including workflow management, supply inventory, and staffing coordination, to ensure efficient and uninterrupted service.
  • Monitor quality control (QC) measures, troubleshoots discrepancies, and ensures all proficiency testing is performed and reported within required timeframes.
  • Conducts competency assessments for laboratory staff, providing ongoing training, mentorship, and performance evaluations in alignment with laboratory and hospital policies.
  • Performs, verifies, and reports moderate and high complexity laboratory tests, ensuring timely, accurate, and reliable results in compliance with CLIA, The Joint Commission, and other regulatory standards.
  • Ensures all laboratory equipment is properly maintained, following manufacturers guidelines, troubleshooting malfunctions, and escalating issues to the Administrative Lab Director as necessary.
  • Oversee compliance with safety regulations, ensuring proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) adherence to infection control protocols, and compliance with the laboratory safety plan.
  • Supports accreditation readiness efforts, assisting with data collection, audits, and documentation of regulatory inspections, including CAP, CLIA, The Joint Commission, and OSHA.
  • Performs efficiently and accurately all aspects of lab testing from the pre-analytical phase through analytical and post analytical phases.
  • Serve as a technical resource for all internal and external customers.
  • Provides compassion to the patient and the patient’s family members.
  • Attend staff meetings as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
