About The Position

The Lead Material Handler is responsible for the safe, accurate, and efficient handling of long steel tubular products in support of outbound shipping operations. This position requires demonstrated experience operating large-capacity lift trucks (30,000 lb and above) to stage, load, and ship long-length steel tube products. The role is focused on outbound order fulfillment and inventory support.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED required
  • Minimum of two to three (2–3) years of material handling experience in a heavy industrial or steel environment
  • Related experience in steel tube or pipe mills, service centers, or distribution facilities supporting outbound shipping
  • Proven experience handling long steel tubular products (pipe or tube)
  • Ability to read and accurately follow shipping documents, load sheets, and bills of lading.
  • Strong attention to detail and shipment accuracy.
  • Demonstrated experience operating large-capacity lift trucks exceeding 30,000 lb.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems, specifically D365.
  • Ability to operate lift trucks for extended periods in an industrial environment.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
  • Frequent climbing on and off equipment and working around long, heavy steel loads.
  • Ability to work overtime, and weekends as required.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification on large-capacity powered industrial lift trucks preferred
  • Experience with Combi-Lift side loaders a plus

Responsibilities

  • Operate large-capacity industrial lift trucks (30,000 lb+ capacity) to move, stage, and load long steel tubular products for outbound shipment.
  • Stage customer orders according to shipping schedules, load plans, and customer requirements.
  • Load tube bundles onto trucks and trailers using lift trucks only, ensuring proper load balance and secure placement.
  • Verify material identification, bundle counts, and condition prior to shipment.
  • Ensure outbound shipments are accurate and comply with shipping documentation and customer specifications.
  • Perform outbound inventory transactions and shipment confirmations in inventory or warehouse management systems.
  • Conduct pre-shift and daily lift truck inspections and report mechanical or safety issues immediately.
  • Maintain proper stacking, clear aisles, and housekeeping in outbound staging and shipping areas.
  • Adhere strictly to all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and powered industrial truck requirements.
