About The Position

The purpose of this Team Captain role is to assist in meeting daily targeted goals as outlined by the Team Leader. They will coordinate daily operations through assigning tasks to operators, monitoring and reviewing key operational performance, providing technical guidance, and leading initial problem-solving activities. The Team captain is responsible for the successful training and development of all team members in accordance with standard work practices and training documents. Team captains will lead and direct a team of four or more team members . The Team Captain will also be responsible to track and trend operational data and take part in Continuous Improvement activities to improve Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost metrics for the operation.

Requirements

  • High School diploma (GED) with 2 years’ work experience in a related field and 1 year experience leading personnel.
  • Qualified applicants should possess experience within at least one of the two department areas outlined below.
  • Department Area – (As Assigned) : There are 2 key sub-areas that require different skillsets: Machining and Metal Forming: Ability to learn and train in laser operations, flat bar and tube forming operations, and robotic machining centers. Ability to do basic levels of machine programming – learn and use nesting software for a Laser and custom programming software for the metal forming and machining equipment. Willingness to operate above equipment as needed.
  • Rail Fabrication and Test: Ability to learn and train in rail fabrication and welding activities for the curved rail, including joining segments and forming and adding gear rack. Willingness to execute above operations as needed.
  • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Perform written documentation and correspondence.
  • Professionally communicate one-on-one and in groups.
  • Ability to perform tasks using computer software and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to lift up to 30-50 pounds routinely
  • Ability to lift over 50 pounds with assistance occasionally
  • Required to reach at or above shoulder level, occasionally
  • Required to climb and/or stand on an elevated step or ladder to perform duties of the job, occasionally
  • Required use of hands and fingers to manipulate tools and product
  • Use of hand tool, both electrical and manual, including hand grinders, air tools, and other fabrication tools.
  • Ability to maneuver, stand, sit, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, use extended reaching, and twist while performing select duties of the job

Responsibilities

  • Align staffing to meet daily work requirements: communicate daily production goals to team members
  • Ensure that team members are efficiently operating throughout department
  • Train, coach, and develop team members through the use of standard work practices to m onitor processes, materials, and work environment, in an effort to identify constraints, before they adversely affect production goals
  • Learn and execute basic programming skills to set up work for the machine and robot operators in the area.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and process issues to minimize operational downtime.
  • Ensure team members have tools and equipment that are in good working condition to complete their daily tasks
  • Communicate parts shortages, scrap, production delays and any deviation from standard work to the Team Leader
  • Cultivate an environment of respect, providing prompt and constructive feedback to team members
  • Initiate daily work improvements through established lean principles and methodology
  • Responsible for creating new and maintaining current job instructions and training documents
  • Provide notification of company policy violations to the Team Leader
  • Promote a safe work environment
  • Conduct daily 5S audits and promote 5S initiatives
  • Conduct preventative maintenance audits daily
  • Utilize basic measuring tools to assure accuracy of work (tape measure, comb. square)
  • Read and interpret work instructions and AWS welding symbols from blueprints
  • Maintain daily performance and productivity of employees
  • Update and report out on Managing for Daily Improvement (MDI), start of shift meeting
