About The Position

Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is seeking a Full Time Lead Lifeguard for the Northern Regional Recreation Center. This role involves planning, organizing, and executing aquatic activities, ensuring a safe environment for patrons, and enforcing facility safety regulations. Key responsibilities include orienting and training new lifeguards and assisting with overall pool operations and maintenance. The ideal candidate will have a passion for aquatics, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work with diverse populations. This full-time position requires a varying schedule, which may include evenings, rotating weekends, and holidays, depending on business and facility needs. Applicants may also be considered for similar roles at other Park and Recreation locations if they meet the minimum qualifications.

Requirements

  • Must have lifeguard experience
  • Must be at least 17 years old
  • Possess at least an eighth (8th) grade education
  • Hold and maintain all required certifications
  • Requires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver’s License and County Driving Privileges
  • Lifeguard certification
  • CPR certification
  • First Aid certification
  • Basic knowledge in various applicable computer programs
  • Knowledge of approved water rescue methods and specific medical first aid techniques

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that swimmers are well supervised in the pool and on the decks
  • Provide training and direction to lifeguards
  • Instruct participants in swimming or other recreational activities and provide safety precaution information
  • Complete and maintain records of weather conditions, emergency medical treatments performed, and other relevant incident information
  • Maintain quality of pool water by testing chemical levels
  • Inspect recreational equipment and facilities for safety and cleanliness
  • Monitor recreational swimming activities in assigned area; using binoculars to detect hazards, disturbances, or safety infractions
  • Assist with facility maintenance and set up
  • Provide basic First Aid and acts as a first responder in the Emergency Action Plans at Aquatic Facilities
  • Fill in for lifeguards as needed
  • Perform other duties as required
