About The Position

The City of Hutchinson is seeking a Lead Laboratory Technician to support critical wastewater and water quality operations. This position is responsible for collecting and tracking samples, performing laboratory testing and certified analysis, supporting quality assurance and quality control, maintaining records, training staff, and helping ensure compliance with wastewater and water quality standards.

Requirements

  • Three years of directly related laboratory experience required
  • Valid Kansas driver's license required
  • Ability to obtain a Class II Wastewater Laboratory Technician Certification after two years of employment

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree in biology, chemistry, or related field preferred
  • Kansas Water and Wastewater Operator Certification and Kansas Water Laboratory Analyst Certification are helpful, but not required

Responsibilities

  • Collect samples from wastewater, wells, streams, manholes, and other locations
  • Perform laboratory testing and process control analysis
  • Support QA/QC functions and maintain compliance records
  • Maintain lab equipment and supplies
  • Train new technicians and assist with procedures and process improvements
  • Support audits, inspections, and departmental operations as needed
