About The Position

Lead a group of investigators who are responsible for conducting internal compliance investigations regarding allegations of business misconduct and wrongdoing and brand protection investigations. In addition, you will be responsible for managing a small case load. You will assist in providing strategic direction and innovation in the management of investigative services by General Motors Global Security Investigators in an efficient and ethical manner. You will report directly to the GM Global Security Investigations Manager. You will assist in developing and implementing investigation programs, processes and standard operating procedures. You identify trends and emerging issues which may require future investigative activity. Ensures Investigators’ compliance with applicable legal requirements and General Motors Policies/Procedures. You will coordinate and oversee the activities Outside Investigative Agencies (OIA) as applicable. You will support the development and measurement of goals and objectives for continuous improvement of investigative programs. Ensure the investigation reports include clear and concise documentation at a level that would support employment action, filing of charges/prosecution by an administrative agency/court of law, or other corrective action.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of related experience
  • 2+ years of supervisory experience in the areas of Global Security, Law Enforcement or Corporate Investigations
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred, or relevant experience
  • Experience in conducting investigations in the area of law enforcement or corporate investigations
  • Ability to lead and mentor other Global Security Investigators
  • Ability to lead work within a team environment on complex and confidential issues
  • Ability to prepare accurate, clear, concise reports, presentations, and records
  • Ability to professionally and clearly communicate both verbally and in writing with customers, employees, and others
  • Working knowledge of international, federal, state and local criminal law and rules of evidence pertaining to theft, fraud, drugs and employment law
  • Basic understanding of lawful investigatory practices including interviewing practices, privacy rights, surveillance techniques, search and seizure and risk assessments
  • Basic understanding of Intellectual Property Rights, (IPR), including civil and criminal remedies (preferred)
  • Ability to travel on short notice as work assignments require
  • Ability to function as a self-starter and to lead a team on multiple, concurrent projects
  • Working knowledge of commonly used drugs and detection techniques (preferred)
  • Competent planning, project management, organization, and time management skills needed to appropriately prioritize and complete special projects and daily work
  • Excellent communication skills are needed to present complex information to management and co-workers, and to conduct investigations
  • Strong analytical skills are needed to evaluate complex data and develop reasonable analysis, appropriate conclusions and/or innovative solutions
  • Computer skills needed to develop logs, process records and meet regular reporting requirements
  • Fluent in English (written and verbal) - knowledge of multiple languages is beneficial but not required.
  • Experience interviewing and obtaining written statements from individuals
  • Proficient with MS Office software

  • Proficient with EthicsPoint Incident Management / AIMS tool (GM’s case management and Awareline tool)
  • Experience in law enforcement
  • Have a working knowledge of commonly used drugs, behaviors related to use of such drugs and detection techniques

Responsibilities

  • Lead a group of Global Security Investigators
  • Conduct internal compliance investigations regarding allegations of business misconduct and wrongdoing and brand protection investigations.
  • Investigative steps include interviewing, reviewing CCTV footage, maintenance of chain of evidence and report writing, and may also include surveillance activity
  • Report results, as directed by the GM Global Security Investigations Manager
  • Functions in an independent manner, as well as in a team setting, demonstrating superior judgment and effective oversight of investigations
  • Provide clear, concise documentation at a level that would support employment action or filing of charges/prosecution by an administrative agency or in a court of law
  • Review reports to determine trends and patterns for possible follow-up investigations
  • Perform risk assessments as part of investigative process to identify weaknesses in either physical security or internal controls
  • Interface effectively with law enforcement agencies, internal GM business units/staffs and Suppliers
  • Maintain current working knowledge and follow both legal and General Motors’ requirements with respect to investigations, interviewing and surveillance
  • Carry out all duties in a legal, ethical, and professional manner in accordance with General Motors Winning with Integrity
  • Function as a leader in a team environment to ensure GM inquiries/concerns are addressed in a confidential, discreet and appropriate manner
  • Ensure that the privacy rights of the parties are protected, and information is shared on a legitimate need to know basis
  • Oversee and perform multiple projects in a prioritized, timely and efficient manner
  • Record investigation activity using General Motors’ electronic incident and reporting tool to ensure that findings are communicated and documented in a timely manner
  • You will assist in developing and implementing investigative programs, processes and standard operating procedures
