About The Position

Are you an experienced inspection professional ready to lead teams and uphold the highest standards of safety, quality, and compliance? We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Inspector to support major utility and pipeline projects across Central Iowa, with a focus on the Cedar Rapids area . This field‑based leadership role offers the opportunity to oversee inspection activities, guide inspectors, and ensure work meets the rigorous standards required for high‑pressure distribution, transmission, and steel pipeline projects. As a Lead Inspector, you will provide direction to field staff, review critical project documentation, and collaborate closely with contractors and project managers to ensure safe, high‑quality construction. Your management experience and deep industry knowledge will be key to ensuring the success and integrity of complex infrastructure projects.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or relevant certifications a plus.
  • Demonstrated leadership, supervisory, or management experience in inspection or utility construction.
  • Extensive field experience in high‑pressure distribution , transmission , or steel pipeline work.
  • Strong understanding of utility construction, welding inspection, pipeline systems, and QA/QC practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, maps, and technical documentation.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to work independently while effectively leading and coordinating field teams.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions and traveling throughout the Cedar Rapids and Central Iowa area.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate daily inspection activities across multiple job sites within the Central Iowa region.
  • Conduct and oversee inspections for high‑pressure distribution , transmission , and steel pipeline projects.
  • Review technical documents including drawings, engineering specifications, welding procedures, and project standards.
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and support to inspection staff, ensuring consistent quality and adherence to procedures.
  • Work closely with contractors, engineers, and project leadership to resolve field issues in real time.
  • Monitor work for compliance with safety regulations, construction codes, and company/industry standards.
  • Document inspection findings, non‑conformances, corrective actions, and site conditions clearly and accurately.
  • Ensure timely communication and reporting to project stakeholders and management.
  • Champion a strong safety culture and enforce safety protocols across all activities.
