About The Position

The Lead Infrastructure Engineer is a strategic technical role responsible for the design, engineering, and maintenance of enterprise-grade IBM WebSphere Application Server (WAS) environments across a multi-operating system landscape (Linux & Windows) in Enterprise Data Centers and Distributed locations globally. A key focus of this role is the modernization of infrastructure through Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization (OSV), enabling the organization to run legacy virtual machines alongside containerized workloads. This leader will drive automation, ensure high availability, and provide expert-level guidance on the convergence of middleware and modern virtualization platforms. The candidate should be passionate about scripting and automating administration tasks to drive efficiency through creative thinking with reliability and consistency. Applicants are expected to have a broad background in WebSphere and WebSphere Liberty along with strong scripting skills and technical knowledge related to server hardware and software. This position will also require OS support for IBM Urban Code Deploy (uDeploy) administration involving Installation of uDeploy Server, Agents, Proxy agents, Relay agents and Plugins. This position requires 12 7 on-call support in rotation with other team members. Provide and lead operational support for 400+ WAS 8.x+ servers including Installation, maintenance and administration on Linux , Red Hat OSV and Windows servers. Provide OS support for 400+ AEM Linux servers. Support WebSphere, Linux Operating System, Red Hat OSV, Web server (IHS/Apache). Support Requests/Incidents and troubleshoot and identify root case and act as the final escalation point for complex issues involving JVM performance, memory leaks, and application-to-OS integration. Ensure seamless middleware operations in a hybrid environment where applications may span across both Linux and Windows clusters. Lead the deployment and management of Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization (OSV) to host legacy WAS virtual machines within the OpenShift platform. Architect automation pipelines using Ansible and Jenkins to provision OS and Middleware layers consistently. Drive problem resolution by meeting the application SLAs with a customer centric view. Maintain WAS installs, WAS site builds and WAS processes runbook. Knowledge of Jenkins and scripting to automate daily tasks. Knowledge of Ansible/Containers and Liberty and GCP. WebSphere Liberty support on CaaS platforms. Lead the implementation of SSL/TLS protocols, certificate management, and security hardening for WAS and IBM HTTP Server (IHS). Provide technical mentorship to junior and mid-level engineers via knowledge-sharing sessions. Provide end to end automated solutions in uDeploy platform by creating components, component processes, application processes, resource trees and agent pools. Use uDeploy REST API to automate uDeploy tasks. Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in a Data Center environment supporting WAS infrastructure and associated toolset
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Computer Information Systems, or equivalent preferred.
  • Expert-level IBM WebSphere (v8.5.5/v9.0) and WebSphere Liberty
  • Advanced Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) administration and Bash/Python scripting
  • Hands-on experience with Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization (OSV), KubeVirt, and OpenShift Container Platform (OCP).
  • Expert in Linux Server Administration, Migration, Backups, Troubleshooting, Disaster Recovery, Performance Monitoring and Fine-tuning.
  • Knowledge of Git repositories and Jenkins jobs for automation.
  • High proficiency in Ansible & CI/CD tools along with strong scripting, automation, and development skills.
  • Excellent relationship management and communications skills working with third party vendors, customers, and management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills working with individuals and teams located globally with the ability to describe issues to upper management.
  • Good problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Highly motivated, team oriented and able to work with minimal direction.
