About The Position

Under general direction, provide a safe, clean and efficient aquatic environment for employees and patrons; maintain proper water chemistry, backwash and vacuum pool as need. The Lead guard will assist the Pool Management Team with the operations of the aquatic facility.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of water safety principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of rescue methods involving water accidents and other types of trauma.
  • Knowledge of general office and facility management to ensure a safe and productive experience for facility users and customers.
  • Ability to learn and apply computer skills to register customers, authorize refunds, and account for site revenues.
  • Ability to apply appropriate interpersonal skills with the public and city staff to maintain positive relations.
  • Ability to maintain the cleanliness and safe condition of the work site.
  • Ability to monitor the work of others and take corrective action as needed.
  • Ability to maintain records and files for the purposes of payroll, incident reporting, and other administrative functions.
  • The above knowledge, skills and abilities may be demonstrated by a high school education or the equivalent.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be substituted for the above.
  • Possession of life saving/guarding certification (American Red Cross) demonstrating completion of CPR and First Aid for the Professional Rescuer.

Responsibilities

  • Prevent and respond to emergency situations in or out of the water.
  • Work effectively with the public and departmental staff to address inquiries for information, assistance, resolution of complaints, and facility maintenance.
  • Assist with customer survey projects.
  • Learn and carry out work location procedures involving customer service, general office administration, safety, facility maintenance, and cash control.
  • Schedule personnel as needed to ensure public safety.
  • Ensure completion of hours reporting for payroll purposes.
  • Coordinate and schedule programs such as public events, facility rentals, and special meetings.
  • Operate a variety of tools and implements including a pool vacuum, air pump, and lifesaving devices such as a backboard, rescue tube, ring buoy, shepherd’s crook and CPR/First Aid equipment.
