Requirements

  • Knowledge of patient positioning during imaging exams
  • Knowledge of radiation safety and protection
  • Able to adjust radiation factors to obtain optimal radiographic views based on physicians needs and abiding by ALARA
  • Skill in using proper body mechanics to ensure patient and technologist safety when moving/transferring patients
  • One (1) year experience as X-ray technologist
  • Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist
  • Associates degree in radiological technology from accredited X-ray technologist program

Nice To Haves

  • Three (3) years experience as a Radiology Technologist in either OR or medical practice setting

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for radiologic procedures. Protect patient, self, and other staff from radiation hazards. Take X-rays and other radiological images following established procedures for patient care and safety, which involve setting up and operating radiographic equipment used in the medical diagnosis and/or treatment of patients and includes implementing infection control procedures for the work area. Select proper ionizing factors for radiological diagnosis. Adjust/set radiographic controls. Positions patients and take diagnostic images of specific parts of the patients body as requested by physicians. Process image. Check image for clarity, retaking when needed. Distribute or transmit image to appropriate medical staff.
  • Download images from CD, pull up images on PACS and label downloaded images onto PACS system as required or needed. Perform Daily QA/QC of imaging to verify quality and consistency in diagnostic imaging.
  • Aid and assist providers and staff during procedures, including patient positioning that demonstrate the best anatomy, moving radiology equipment, providing radiation protective devices and complying with ALARA and provider standards and preferences.
  • Recognize which scheduled exams require radiology; order and aide in those exams and perform according to planned and/or emergency situations.
  • Demonstrate diplomacy and tact in interpersonal interactions with patients, management, clinic staff and physicians.
  • Assist in the training/education of staff in radiation safety and acquisition of diagnostic imaging.
  • Maintain required records including patient records, daily log books, and monthly reports.
  • Clean, maintain, and make minor adjustments to radiographic equipment, including determining equipment repairs. Perform quantity and quality control checks to assure X-ray unit meets standards required by laws, rules, and departmental policies. Comply with safety standards.
  • Maintain radiographic supplies, and orders as necessary, and stock room. Assist with patient turn over
  • Other duties as needed or assigned.
