About The Position

WSP is currently searching for a Lead Geomatics Specialist to join our Midwest Geomatics Team in Minneapolis, MN, St. Louis, MO, Novi, MI, or other negotiated Midwest WSP office location . This position plays an important role in delivering surveying and geospatial solutions for a variety of projects, supporting Transportation, Infrastructure, Energy, and other sectors. The successful candidate will lead field operations, support CAD/GIS deliverables, and collaborate with project managers to ensure technical quality and client satisfaction. Your Impact People and Culture Lead and mentor field crews including Party Chiefs, Jr. Party Chiefs, and Instrument Operators. Support onboarding and training of new staff; promote a culture of collaboration, safety, and technical excellence. Coordinate with office-based CAD/GIS staff to ensure seamless integration of field data into deliverables. Represent WSP professionally in the field and office. Communicate effectively with clients and stakeholders during field operations. Provide accurate and timely updates on project progress. Perform survey field work using GNSS, total stations, and other instruments; prepare clear notes and sketches. Download, process, and integrate field data into AutoCAD and GIS platforms. Produce high-quality CAD drawings and GIS deliverables; assist with QA/QC reviews. Support a variety of projects including boundary and topographic surveys, utility surveys, construction stakeout, monitoring, and 3D laser scanning. Ensure compliance with company standards, regulations, and QA/QC procedures. Manage survey equipment calibration and inventory; prepare supply orders. Coordinate field and office tasks to meet project schedules and budgets. Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs. Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds and resources and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures. Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required but ideal candidates will have obtained higher education in the field of land surveying or an associated field.
  • 11+ years of experience in the field of land surveying and geospatial services or an associated field.
  • Possess a complete knowledge of almost all survey equipment, practices, and procedures .
  • Successfully complete and pass WSP's Motor Vehicle and Background screening.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills and should be detail oriented and organized
  • Ability to work independently, or as a leader for multiple teams to complete field tasks related to land surveying.
  • Possess a willingness to mentor and teach Party Chiefs, Jr Party Chiefs, and Instrument Operators.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of this position which may include walking long distances and carrying equipment up to 50 pounds in weight.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and be willing to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules conducive to project-specific needs that may extend beyond the typical work hours or work weeks.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in closely related discipline is preferred.
  • Possess OSHA 40 and other types of safety training certifications
  • Possess PLS, LSIT, CST, or FAA Part 107 certifications
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, Trimble Business Center, and Lecia Infinity or other drafting / data processing programs a plus
  • Experience in most types of survey work including but not limited to traditional boundary and topographic location surveys, utility surveys, right of way surveys, construction stakeout and monitoring, 3D laser scanning, and more.
