About The Position

VHB’s Geomatics Co-op - Watertown, MA is designed to introduce students into the workforce. The program will build essential professional skills by offering opportunities for hands-on learning in a supportive yet challenging environment. The intern program is designed to round out participants’ academic learning with real world experience and help them explore related areas of practice to find the best fit for their career path. Co-op terms generally run from June - December 2026. Geomatics is a set of professional disciplines that relate to the collection, management, analysis, and delivery of spatial information. Requirements

  • Ability to learn the proper use of GPS equipment and Manual and or Robotic Instruments.
  • Ability to learn mathematical concepts such as the fundamentals of geometry
  • Understands the basics of Boundary Survey, Topographic, Construction, and Utility Surveys
  • Able to think critically
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with survey staff and clients
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Geomatics, Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related field

Responsibilities

  • Perform various land surveying tasks under the direction of more senior Land Surveyors including: Operation, transport and setup of Total Stations (Manual and Robotic), Data Collectors, GPS, and other Land Surveying equipment.
  • Reconnaissance and recovery of Land Surveying markers through use of hand tools, brush cutting, and digging.
  • Ability to transport Land Surveying Equipment, navigate and traverse through difficult terrain, environments and wooded areas.
  • Performs construction stakeout of proposed improvements, including the installation of stakes through use of sledgehammers and hand tools.
  • Maintains proper care of all survey equipment.
  • Requires valid Driver's license and ability to operate company vehicles, including large cargo vans.
  • Some overnight travel may be required from time to time due to workshare opportunities with other VHB offices.
  • Documents all phases of survey work through clear field notes and data collection Land surveying including, but not limited to, Boundary, ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys, Existing Conditions & Topographic survey, Construction layout, and utility surveys.
