About The Position

The Opportunity: Skilled US is seeking a full-time Lead GED Instructor to deliver high-impact instruction that supports learners who are reconnecting with education and preparing for postsecondary and workforce pathways. This role focuses on delivering engaging, structured daytime instruction that prepares students for success on high school equivalency exams while building academic confidence, foundational skills, and readiness for next-step training or employment. The Lead Instructor provides instructional leadership, curriculum alignment, and mentorship while fostering a supportive, structured, and motivating learning environment that promotes persistence and completion.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Adult Education or a related field.
  • Minimum of three years of instructional experience in ABE/ASE programs.
  • Indiana Teacher Certification.
  • Standards Proficient Certification and STAR Certification.
  • Strong proficiency with instructional technology, LMS platforms, and digital learning tools.
  • Effective classroom management and ability to create structured, supportive learning environments.
  • Experience supporting learners with varied academic histories and readiness levels.
  • Knowledge of GED subject areas and testing requirements.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual proficiency is highly desirable.
  • TABE Certification preferred.
  • Google Certified Educator or demonstrated experience integrating educational technology experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct and prepare students: Deliver Adult Basic Education (ABE) and Adult Secondary Education (ASE) instruction in math, science, reading, and social studies aligned with GED standards.
  • Design and facilitate engaging, structured learning experiences that support varied learning styles and academic readiness levels.
  • Integrate real-world applications, career relevance, and culturally responsive practices to strengthen engagement and purpose.
  • Assess readiness: Utilize multiple assessment tools to evaluate academic progress and readiness for GED testing
  • Provide timely, constructive feedback and clear strategies to support academic growth and testing preparedness.
  • Lesson planning and Curriculum Integration: Develop, implement, and continuously refine lesson plans using approved instructional materials, departmental templates, and supplemental resources.
  • Apply differentiated instruction and scaffolded learning strategies to meet the needs of learners with diverse academic backgrounds.
  • Ensure alignment with GED competencies, institutional outcomes, and postsecondary or workforce readiness goals.
  • Administrative Duties: Maintain accurate and timely records including attendance, grades, progress notes, and testing documentation.
  • Submit required reports and instructional documentation according to institutional and funder guidelines.
  • Use electronic platforms and learning management systems to manage instruction, data, and communication.
  • Professional Growth and Compliance: Participate in required professional development, in-service trainings, and instructional coaching.
  • Maintain documentation of professional growth, including required certifications.
  • Adhere to institutional policies related to scheduling, instruction, assessments, and instructional coverage.
  • Student support & Engagement: Provide individualized instruction, small-group support, and targeted tutoring to reinforce core concepts.
  • Implement strategies that improve persistence, attendance, and academic confidence.
  • Maintain consistent, timely communication with learners to support accountability and progress.
  • Collaboration and Program Alignment: Collaborate with program staff, advisors, and community partners to support learner success and pathway alignment.
  • Participate in cross-functional planning related to testing schedules, transitions, and instructional supports.
  • Complete additional duties or special projects as assigned to support program goals.
