About The Position

The YouthBuild GED Instructor empowers young individuals aged 16-24 through comprehensive workforce development programs. This role focuses on supporting participants in entering the workforce, managing professional development curricula, and fostering job readiness. The GED Instructor is responsible for the facilitation of the GED preparation, tutoring, and all classroom educational programming. Also responsible for providing literacy instruction to adult students who are pursuing upgraded literacy and basic academic skills in Reading, Writing, English & Math, possibly leading to a GED. Provide assessment, orientation, and instruction to adults at various instructional levels. Complete tasks and assignments associated with classroom instruction, such as record keeping, retention, reporting and recruitment of students.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education and a Teacher Certification.
  • Experience in facilitating large classes, or experience working with youth.
  • Familiarity with the TABE, CASAS, GED, and other standardized assessments.
  • Experience in creative curriculum planning and development
  • Proficiency in computer applications.
  • Proficiency in all subjects-up to the 12th grade level.
  • Exceptional written communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to multitask to meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare detailed and accurate reports.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
  • Travel and willingness to work flexible hours are required.
  • Current driver's license, with clean driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual (Spanish) proficiency is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching basic skills to students with varying academic levels while integrating GED skills, reading and math skills, social justice and community issues, and culture (and also including math, reading, language arts, social studies, and science).
  • Assessing individual student progress and adapting curriculum and lesson plans to the needs of the students.
  • Assessing student readiness to take particular GED exams, and coordinating with test providers around testing dates and scores.
  • Keeping records in accordance with funding and staff needs.
  • Assisting with the recruitment and intake assessment of prospective students.
  • Attending all staff meetings and participating in programmatic activities
  • Maintains caseload of youth in class and one-on-one tutoring sessions.
  • Plans, organizes, and leads groups of youth in program lessons and associated activities.
  • Implements procedures and policies for operation of the program.
  • Responsible for communicating discipline issues with youth to Supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned.
